Ocean’s 11 actor Henry Silva dies aged 95 a day before his birthday says his family

Hollywood actor Henry Silva died aged 95, a day shy of his birthday.

The actor, who was known for starring in hit blockbuster movies, including Ocean’s 11, Manchurian Candidate and Johnny Cool, passed away Wednesday (September 14).

The icon, who would’ve celebrated his 96th birthday on September 15, died of natural causes, as confirmed by his son Scott.

Henry – who was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1926 – died at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills.

Deana Martin, the daughter of Hollywood legend Dean Martin, shared a heartfelt tribute to Silva on Twitter, saying he was “one of the nicest men” she ever had the “pleasure” of calling a friend.

She wrote: “Our hearts are broken at the loss of our dear friend Henry Silva, one of the nicest, kindest and most talented men I’ve had the pleasure of calling my friend.

“He was the last surviving star of the original Oceans 11 Movie. We love you, Henry, you will be missed.”

The actor appeared in a number of other movies with Frank Sinatra, including the original Ocean’s Eleven (1960) with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr and 1962’s Western Sergeants 3.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1926, Silva quit school when he was 13 years old, supporting himself as he attended drama lessons.

He earned a spot at entertainment organisation the Actor’s Studio in 1955, soon going on to appear on Broadway and on the big screen.

His last credit was as a boxing spectator in the 2001 Ocean’s 11 remake.

Silva was married to Ruth Earl from 1966-87, and they had two sons, Michael and Scott.

His sons wanted their dad’s social media accounts “listed in his obituary” so fans could pay tribute.

Fans have since left tributes, with one person writing: “RIP it’s a sad day for Hollywood.”

Another person penned: “Another legend gone to the stars RIP.”

A third shared: “I remember watching his movies growing up. Rest easy.”
