Strictly judge Shirley Ballas in tears as son Mark wins Dancing with the Star US

Shirley Ballas struggled to hold back the tears in a new video as she congratulated her son Mark Ballas he won Dancing with the Stars.

On Tuesday morning, the Strictly Come Dancing head judge took to her Instagram Story to announce that her son Mark Ballas and his celebrity dance partner, TikTok sensation Charli D’Amelio had won the series.

The 62-year-old dancer told followers in the video that she had stayed up until the early hours of the morning to watch her son – who is a professional dancer on the US show – lift the glitterball trophy.

She told her loyal legion of fans: “So, I’ve stayed up all night. It’s now 3.00 am in the morning and my son, beautiful son Mark and Charli just won the Mirrorball trophy.

“I want to give a huge thank you to Harry who’s kept me abrest everything, and Corky all night. Nanny and I have been here, who just got up now, to have a little brandy, because out nerves have gone.”

The doting mum added: “Huge congratulations to Mark for a beautiful season, to Charli for really working hard, and to all the beautiful fans, Courtney and Mark and Charli fans, thank you for keeping me in the loop.

“You are all superstars. Really appreciate it. Thank you…Oh my God!”

The brunette beauty shares son Mark with US ballroom dancer Corky Dallas, 61, who they brought up in the heart of Houston, Texas.

The ballroom hunk went to school in South London and at the age of 11, he went on to attend Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Art in the capital.

He first appeared on Dancing with the Stars back in 2007 on the fifth season of the show and has continued to wow viewers as a professional dancer on the show up until season 22.

After three years away from the US reality show, he returned with a bang, which saw him win the series three times altogether, having previously taken home trophies in season eight with US gymnast Shawn Johnson and season 6 with US figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi.

But this isn’t the first time the judge has become emotional over her son Mark as she gushed over him at the Pride of Britain Awards.

During the star-studded event, Shirley was asked what she was “most proud of” from the past year.

The Strictly star said: “My proudest achievement this year was that I got to fly to the United States and hold my son in my arms after three years of not seeing him.

“That is the proudest moment that I have had this year.”
