Bruce Willis’ daughter welcomes first child after dad’s heartbreaking diagnosis

Bruce Willis’ daughter Rumer has welcomed her first child after a home birth.

Rumer confirmed her daughter’s adorable name in a heartfelt Instagram post, which comes tinged with sadness as her famous dad battles dementia.

Sharing a series of sweet snaps of her baby girl, Rumer wrote to fans: “Louetta Isley Thomas Willis. You are pure magic.”

She added: “Born at home on Tuesday April 18th. You are more than we ever dreamed of.”

Fans – and Rumer’s famous pals – soon rushed to comment their congratulations on the snaps, with Hilary Duff penning: “Yes mama… Magical!”

Her step-mum Emma Heming Willis wrote: “Omg we love her so so much!”

While Ireland Baldwin – who is also expecting a child – added: “Too cute… it ain’t right. So happy for you!!!”

Plus size model Tess Holliday penned: “Congrats mama!!”

Rumer first announced she was pregnant in December 2022, confirming she was expecting her first baby with partner Derek Richard Thomas.

And though she tends to keep their relationship close to her chest, Rumer did say while co-hosting The Talk in 2020: “It’s important to wait. I think it’s so important not to rush in and have it be about the lust or, you know, that immediate connection.”

Her dad Bruce, meanwhile, said he was hoping for a grandson – and “put pressure” on Rumer over quarantine.

She joked: “Even my dad puts pressure on me. Over the quarantine he was like, ‘So I’d like for you to have a son because I need some male energy in this group.’

“It’s a lot of women, obviously. He has five daughters and my mom and my step-mom. There’s just a lot of female energy.”

Rumer’s good news comes just months after her dad was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, after initially battling an aphasia diagnosis.

Rumer and the rest of the Willis clan issued a statement earlier this year confirming the news, writing: “Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis.

“In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing.

“Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD).

“Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” she wrote.
