Corrie's Aaron actor says he will feel 'sense of betrayal' as Amy rape ordeal looms

Coronation Street actor James Craven has said his character Aaron Sanford will feel a “real sense of betrayal” as Amy Barlow’s harrowing abuse storyline looms.

Discussing the upcoming scenes which will see Aaron and Amy in an uncomfortable situation, actor James said Aaron will be pushed away by his girlfriend Summer Spellman as they try to salvage their fragmented relationship.

Trying to forget about his troubles, a drunken evening with friends will ensue.

But unfortunately things will take a different direction for Amy and Aaron as he ends up having sex with her without her consent.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star and other press, James shared details on how Amy’s traumatising ordeal will take place following his fall out with Summer.

He said: “I think it goes without saying that him and Summer have had a lot of problems with their relationship in the past – some of them have been sort of out of their control.

“But I think he’s always been there to support her previously, he’s always stuck by no matter what and tried to help her through everything.

“But I think this time he feels this real sense of betrayal I think while he knows he’s done something wrong he tries to make a mends for it and she just pushes him away.

“So I think this time he thinks it’s he last straw and he thinks what’s the point in bothering with any of this.”

Talking his developing relationship with Amy, he added: “Also you have to remember that him and Amy have had all this time together in the flat.

“Obviously they’ve had Brian there but mainly it has just been them two.

“So they’ve had all this time that we haven’t seen on screen for them to grow closer to one another and really learn to care for each other to laugh with another and for their friendship to become stronger.”

Coronation Street producers hope the story will start conversations

Amy and Aaron will both try to come to terms with what happened on the night of the incident.

But knowing that she did not agree to have sex with Aaron, Amy will be left in a traumatising predicament.

Sharing his thoughts on the story, Producer Iain MacLeod said: “Since we started discussing this storyline, I have been struck by the number of people who have put their hands up to say they’ve had a similar experience to Amy.

“This story will be hugely relatable and we hope it will prompt important discussions among our audience about issues around consent.”
