Kate Garraway concerned for ‘broken’ Huw Edwards as pal says he’s ‘complicated’

GMB co-host Kate Garraway shared her concerns for “broken” Huw Edwards after he was named as the presenter involved in the sex pictures scandal.

Huw’s wife confirmed on Wednesday (July 12), after days of claims, that he was the presenter that was facing allegations for paying for explicit snaps, among other allegations.

The newsreader’s wife also revealed Huw had been hospitalised after “suffering mental health issues” – just after police ruled out a criminal offence.

And as expected, the news was a hot topic on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (July 13) fronted by Kate and Ben Shephard.

In the episode, show favourite Dr Hilary spoke about how the scandal most likely has affected Huw’s mental health.

“You can just imagine he must be broken,” Kate quipped.

Later on, Huw’s friend and former BBC correspondent Jon Sopel made an appearance on the show, to discuss the scandal.

“You’ve worked with Huw for a long time, have you spoken to him?” Kate quizzed.

He replied: “We’ve had contact, obviously not since he has been been hospitalised.

Huw’s colleague appeared on GMB

“He was very angry and very let down by what happened in The Sun, furious with their coverage, not overly impressed with the BBC’s coverage either, and I think that he is just, I’m sure anyone who knows him is just wishing him well.”

He added: “Huw I have known for over three decades, and he is incredibly funny, has got an acid wit, he can be a complicated person to deal with.”

“If you enter Huw’s orbit he’s very defensive over his own territory,” he went on.

Jon also said he hopes Huw will return to his broadcasting role.

He explained: “If at the end of this, what you are left with is someone who had some personal struggles about who he was, what he was, how he lived his life.

“And he made some ill considered judgements along the way, I think it would be such a shame if such a talented and gifted broadcaster, and the way he navigates state occasions and the big events and reads the news with such authority, if that is lost, I think it will be a great loss.

“I hope he gets better, and I hope that some way, somehow, he’s back, providing that nothing else comes out that we don’t know about.’
