Margot Robbie had a very specific coping strategy to help her get over her nerves during filming for The Wolf of Wall Street.
Margot, who got her start in Australian soap opera Neighbours, fretted she wasn’t “good enough” to play the “sexiest blonde ever”.
In the 2013 film, Margot played Naomi Lapaglia alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort.

Naomi was inspired by the millionaire stockbroker’s second wife, Nadine Macaluso – and those were some big shoes to step into.
Margot explained that the reason she used her hands to gesture so much in the film was mainly due to nerves.
Speaking in a 2017 interview with Wonderland, the A-lister confessed: “I was terrified that people would see the movie and think, ‘Ugh! She’s not good enough.’
“I was very conscious that the script said, ‘The sexiest blonde ever’. Clearly I’m not the sexiest blonde in history.”
And her hand gestures were born out of a desire to disguise her Australian accent as she played a Brooklyn native. With the help of a dialect coach, Margot pretended she’d just had a manicure in order to perfect the dialogue.
Speaking on Absolute Radio, Margot explained: “My acting coach back in L.A, Nancy Banks, said pretend you have acrylic nails, and they’ve just been put on and they’ve painted them and they’re still wet.
“Suddenly I’m doing all these hand gestures and then, that’s where the accent started.”
And despite her nerves, Margot’s full-frontal nude scene in the hit flick managed to turn the heads of several Hollywood moguls, including Playboy giant Hugh Hefner.
Hefner reached out to Margot to invite her for a shoot at his mansion, telling US Weekly at the time: “The girl that plays [Jordan Belfort’s] wife in [Wolf of Wall Street] is very, very pretty.
“She should be in Playboy. Send her a message! We’re ready for her. She would be great.”

But Margot insisted she’d “put her family through enough” with her nude scenes and refused to pose for the magazine.
She was initially forced to lie to her parents about the nude scenes, telling Jimmy Kimmel: “I just flat out lied to my family for a really long time. I said, ‘I don’t care what you hear, there is no nudity, I’m not doing any nudity. Ignore anything anyone’s saying, there is no nudity’.
“And then I thought, ‘Well, the movie’s going to come out and they’ll see there’s nudity’, so I changed that. The lie evolved to, ‘Well actually it’s a body double, and they just CGI-ed my head onto someone else’.”
