Shannen Doherty fought 90210 co-star and 'took it outside' after 'pulling her skirt up'

There’s no doubt Shannen Doherty is a 90s TV icon, best known for her roles as Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Prue Halliwell in Charmed.

But while the actress, who turns 52 today (April 12), quickly rose to fame for her roles in the hit teen shows, her early career was also plagued with rumours of feuds with her co-stars.

One of those included her infamous fallout with 90210 co-star Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor.

While Doherty and Garth were portrayed as best friends on screen, their real-life relationship was tense.

The girls reportedly fought regularly and Garth has even admitted their fierce rivalry turned violent during one fight on set.

Garth revealed they even “took it outside” as she spilled the details of the brawl while appearing on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen to promote the show’s 2019 reboot, BH90210.

Discussing their infamous feud on the set of 90210, Garth told Cohen: “We were young and so stupid”.

Pressed for more details about their fights during filming, she added: “I can only remember one incident and that was when, yeah, we took it outside.”

Cohen continued to dig, asking if their clashing ever got physical and Garth admitted it did.

“Yeah, I’m a Midwestern girl, and I spent some time in Glendale, Arizona. So, that makes you tough,” she said.

But when it came to who won the fight, she revealed that neither of them came out victorious.

“The guys held us back,” Garth said. “So, we never actually (did anything).”

Fellow 90210 star Tori Spelling, who appeared alongside Garth on the talk show, admitted she also remembered the fight, telling Cohen: “I stayed in my dressing room shaking when it was happening.”

When asked whether she remembered what prompted the brawl, Garth responded: “I do but I don’t wanna say because it’s so stupid”.

But Spelling interrupted and revealed exactly what the bust-up was all about, saying: “You guys were teasing each other and she pulled your skirt up.”

Garth then admitted the fight had been about her skirt being pulled up, she said: “I didn’t care for that, like who does that I wouldn’t do that to someone.”

She added: “I’m pretty sure I got in her face at that point. But we’re just both very strong Aries women we don’t back down — no matter what”.

In 1994, Doherty left 90210 after the fourth season but it wouldn’t be the only time she was reported to have feuded with a co-star.

In 2001 an alleged fallout with one of her Charmed co-stars led to her leaving her role as Prue Halliwell after just three seasons.

She told Entertainment Tonight at the time: “There was too much drama on the set and not enough passion for the work.

“I want to work with actors who really, really care and that want to be there every single day.

“I don’t want to work with people who b***h about their job and complain about it and say that they hate it or anything else.”

However, Garth and Doherty were eventually able to make up years after starring alongside each other.

“I think when you’re 18, your personalities conflict, and then you meet up 10 or 15 years later and the playing ground is totally different and you’re fine,” Doherty told Entertainment Weekly in 2008.

Garth also recently denied rumours the pair were still feuding after posting pictures of herself alongside other 90s stars attending the 2023 90s Con.

Fans were quick to notice that Doherty, who had also attended the event, was missing from any of the pics.

But Garth insisted there was no longer any bad blood between the pair as she told fans in her comment section to “stop reaching”.

She wrote: “Ok. Everyone needs to take a deep breath. 1. I simply didn’t have a picture of me with shannon on my phone to add. 2. I didn’t have access to a shannon banner backstage. Like there wasn’t one lying in the pile.

“3. we had almost completely diff schedules so sadly we barely saw each other. 4. stop making assumptions when you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. 5. please stop reaching to paint such a negative narrative. here and everywhere.”
