Eyewear and audiology brand Specsavers has crowned the most iconic glasses-wearer of all time – with Sir Elton John topping the list.
The legendary singer, whose career spans over five decades, was awarded the honourary title of “Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of All Time” – after a poll of 2,000 adults revealed the top 10 famous framed faces.
Comedian Alan Carr, U2 frontman Bono, and Hollywood A-lister Johnny Depp also appeared among the top specs-wearers.
And former tennis pro Billie Jean King won a spot among the top 10, after storming to victory a record 20 times on Centre Court at Wimbledon, whilst sporting glasses.
However, the ultimate honour ended up going to Elton John, ahead of his farewell headline Glastonbury set this Sunday, which will be the first time in his career he has ever played the festival.

Bianca Swan, frame stylist for Specsavers, said: “Whether it’s giant glasses, feathery fits, or bejewelled blazers, Sir Elton John is sure to bring the glitz and glam this weekend as he takes the headline spot at Glastonbury Festival for the first time.
“And his performance on the Pyramid Stage will undoubtedly be a defining moment in his career – however, we believe this recognition as the “Spectacle Wearer of All Time” could come a close second.
“Whether it’s his signature bright frames, the attention-grabbing size, or sparkling embellishments, Sir Elton’s glasses have left an indelible mark on the minds of fans and fashion enthusiasts alike. We can’t wait to see what he wears onstage on Sunday.”
The study also saw eight in ten describe Elton John’s glasses throughout his musical journey as memorable – with 67% noting the bright frame colours are what sticks in their mind the most.
For 60%, it’s the size that makes them so unforgettable, while 48% are drawn to the sparkles.
But generally, 18% think celebrities who wear glasses are more memorable – as 54% say the style of the frame is often the most defining characteristic.
In fact, one in ten have even been inspired by a specs-wearing celeb when it comes to picking up their next pair.
Nearly half (48%) of those polled believe it used to be “uncool” to wear glasses – but now feel like everyone wants to don the look.
And 21% even stated glasses are now the coolest fashion accessory, the survey, conducted via OnePoll.com, found.
Bianca Swan, from Specsavers, added: “As styles come and go, one thing always remains a constant – and that’s the impact a great pair of specs can make to your look.
“Over the years different styles come in and out of fashion – but for many, they can really be the perfect accessory to complete a look.”
