Alien: Romulus has a scene so vile that the crew had to avert their eyes.
According to the film’s star Isabela Merced, one scene was so “disgusting” that the cast and crew were forced to look away while filming. The Hollywood Reporter wrote: “During a recent round of reshoots, Merced and some nearby cast/crew got to watch a significant chunk of the film on Alvarez’s iPad and one scene in particular prompted everyone but Merced to look away in horror.”

“‘There’s a scene that I’m in and they all had to turn away. Not one person stayed looking at that iPad because it was so disgusting,’” Merced reveals. “And I was watching it like this…(Merced pretends to hold an iPad with a mesmerised look on her face) I was so excited.”
The film was released on 16 August to rave reviews and is part of the Alien universe. Alien: Romulus is a sequel to Alien and a prequel to the follow up film Aliens.
Business Insider reported: “The film kicks off with a shop owned by Weyland-Yutani, the nefarious corporation at the heart of the franchise, as it flies toward a huge field of debris in space.”
The 2024 science fiction horror thriller was directed by Fede Alvarez and is the seventh instalment in the Alien franchise. The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.
According to reports, Alien: Romulus was originally intended to be released on Hulu but Disney decided to move it to a theatrical release. Fans and critics alike have praised the horror with Rotten Tomatoes writing that the film’s “striking visuals and claustrophobic terror” combined with “gory action” makes it “arguably the best instalment since Aliens”.
They wrote: “Honouring its nightmarish predecessors while chestbursting at the seams with new frights of its own, Romulus injects some fresh acid blood into one of cinema’s great horror franchises.” Alien is a sci-fi horror franchise which began back in 1979.
Sigourney Weaver played Ellen Ripley, a warrant officer who battles with the Alien creature – often referred to as Xenomorph – and the events that occur while on the ship. Mostly taking place in the 22nd and 24th centuries, the Alien franchise follows humanity battling against the Alien lifeforms.
