Anna Maxwell Martin has revealed she has a bizarre sandwich phobia and has to ask other actors to ‘get that out’ if they have them on set.
The Line Of Duty and Motherland star admitted she makes her co-stars go hungry or eat outside because she hates sandwiches so much. The 47-year-old also revealed she has a ‘problem’ with fridges and can’t bear being by them if they are open.
Maxwell Martin, who is currently starring in BBC detective comedy Ludwig with David Mychell, said she thinks that it stems from her pregnancies with her two daughters as she suffered severe sickness.

She told the Dish podcast that one of her major dislikes is mayonnaise and that it gives her an aversion to sandwiches. “I think I’ve got phobic food issues”, she told the podcast.
“Not in the room, not in the house. If I’m on a set and sandwiches are brought on – it’s hard for me to even say that word – I’d have to say ‘get that out’. ‘Sorry other actors, you’re not eating. Or if you want to eat, step outside. But not in here’.
“I think there is a trauma. It’s not about sandwiches, but I was sick all through my pregnancies. Sick, sick, sick as a dog. Sick, sick, sick. So now I also have a problem with fridges as well.
“Oh my god, I can open a fridge and be like ‘not for me, not staying here, not eating here’.” Maxwell Martin said she hates the ‘smell’ and also said: “I think there’s a name for this condition. Someone was saying to me the other day that she doesn’t like the sound of chewing gum or the sound of things and she said maybe you have a similar thing about foods.
“I was on a train yesterday with sandwiches and it was a nightmare.”
