BBC Breakfast presenter missing from lineup after bankruptcy threat

BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt was missing from his usual hosting spot on Friday (June 7).

The presenter can usually be seen next to Naga Munchetty on the famous sofa from Thursday to Saturday, but this morning he was replaced by Roger Johnson who stepped in for his co-star.

Charlie was nowhere to be seen on the lineup – with no explanation from his replacement or his co-star Naga. This comes after Charlie had been threatened with being bankrupt.

This was due to him failing to pay an outstanding tax bill. Charlie, 61, and his wife Anne, 58, have been asked to pay back the debt which has accumulated into the thousands.

Stayt Ltd is the source of their unpaid tax and Charlie and his wife are both listed as directors for the firm. Stayt Ltd’s business aims are listed as being a TV programming and broadcasting company.

It is believed to be £6,409 in debt, with some of the unpaid sum stretching back to March 2023, The Sun reports. Charlie and Anne are continuing to live a luxurious lifestyle at their Twickenham pad which is expected to be worth £2.3milliion. They share two children together.

The BBC host has become used to a lavish lifestyle, having carved out a successful career in broadcasting, but before that was also sent to a private school for his education in the 1960s.

He initially started out his career in radio, before he moved over to the TV industry – when he was hired by rival channel ITV.
