BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood shares ‘unsettling’ news as co-star ‘puts her on the spot’

Carol Kirkwood had to deliver some unfortunate news on BBC Breakfast.

The 62-year-old weather presenter has been on Breakfast since 1997, and given how miserable British weather can be, it’s safe to say she’s used to sharing bad news. On Wednesday (August 14) she was forced to admit the rest of August is looking “unsettled”.

Host Nina Warhurst wanted to know what viewers could expect from the weather for the rest of the month, given that it is the Summer Holidays. She asked Carol: “I know we put you on the spot sometimes, I’m gonna do it again.

“Looking ahead of the weekend though, for the rest of August, how’s it looking?”. Carol, however, had to tell her co-star that things were looking rather uncertain.

She replied: “The rest of August, woah, crystal ball. Next week is looking a bit more unsettled than this week.

“We’ll have the remnants of an old tropical storm coming across the Atlantic. It’s quite big, so the computer models at the moment are unsure as to what’s going to happen. But it could bring is some wet and windy weather, middle of the week, Wednesday, Thursday time. But still a lot to play for.”

Nina’s co-host Jon Kay jokingly asked: “White Christmas?”, to which a laughing Carol replied: “Somewhere, Jon, somewhere!”.

Nina apologised to Carol for putting her on the spot, saying: “Sorry Carol, with it being the Summer Holidays, lots of people are trying to plan for the next few weeks. It’s not that easy is it.”

Carol advised viewers: “Easiest thing is, take your brolly, you can use it as a parasol or to keep the rain off.” Nina replied: “Good advice!”.
