BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty apologises for ‘interrupting’ after brutal feedback

Naga Munchetty was quick to issue an apology for “interrupting” after BBC Breakfast fans had slammed her.

The 49-year-old TV host had been blasted by fans online earlier in the week as they claimed she’d led a “car crash” interview with Rachel Reeves, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. But online users were left fuming over the discussion as they left a slew of negative comments on X/Twitter.

One person moaned: “Why don’t you keep interrupting Naga. Oh you are.” A second person agreed: “Any chance at all she can let Rachel Reeves answer the sodding question.”

While a third and fourth followed up with: “What a car crash of an interview this is!! They’re both just talking over each other.” and “FFS Naga, stop interrupting and badgering Rachel Reeves, some of us would like to hear her point of view on the budget.”

On Friday’s show (March 8), Naga and her co-star Charlie Stayt had been interviewing Dr Adrian Boyle who is President of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, along with Deborah Coles, Director, Inquest. The BBC had conducted an investigation into thousands of prevention of death reports.

Effectively, the BBC had scanned through masses of reports which they described as “warning letters sent by the government of health authority after a death to try and prevent similar situations from happening in the future”. Their findings established that there had been two cases per week where the NHS had failed people.

Naga didn’t hesitate to issue apologies for butting in on Friday’s show

Long wait times for support, shortage of staff and a lack of resources were all accountable for unnecessary deaths.Dr Adrian and Deborah appeared on the programme to discuss the findings with Naga and Charlie.

The inquest director expressed her view that not enough was being done. It was Dr Adrian’s turn to voice his thoughts on the matter, however half way through speaking the TV star chimed in. This time and after yesterday’s feedback, she apologised for butting in.

Dr Adrian agreed with Naga’s points

Naga said: “Sorry to interrupt, you say this is a fixable problem but these prevention of death notices they actually don’t require the NHS to act on them. Do they?” The TV personality added: “I mean I wonder, is it a stick? Is it a carrot?

“Is it anything other than a notice that families are getting some information but families who have lost loved ones want to make sure that this doesn’t happen again and if the NHS isn’t obliged to do anything then what?”

Dr Adrian agreed with Naga on her valid point. He concluded: “You’re absolutely right, there is a lack of accountability within the system.”
