BBC release statement as Strictly star ‘axed’ following misconduct allegations

The BBC have now spoken out following Strictly Come Dancing star Graziano Di Prima’s recent axing from the show.

Earlier today (13 July), the news broke that the Italian professional dancer will not be coming back for the 20th series airing later this year following allegations of inappropriate physical and verbal behaviour.

Graziano Di Prima is facing accusations about his conduct towards 2023 dance partner Zara McDermott, although she’s yet to release a statement on the matter.

“While we would never comment on individual cases, it is well-known that the BBC has established and robust duty of care procedures, and if issues are raised we will always take them seriously and act swiftly as appropriate.”

Prior to this, Graziano shared a statement on Instagram following his axing where he admitted ‘deep regret’ over the what led to his departure from the show.

Graziano shared in his statement: “I deeply regret the events that led to my departure from Strictly. My intense passion and determination to win might have affected my training regime.

“While respecting the BBC HR process, I acknowledge it’s only right for the sake of the show that I step away. I am saddened that I wasn’t allowed to offer a quote to the online news stories, and I take on board the sensitivity of the situation.”

He continued: “There’s more to this story that I am unable to discuss at this time, but I am committed to being strong for my family and friends. I wish the Strictly family nothing but success in the future.”

Graziano joined the cast of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2018 and danced his way through the seasons with partners such as radio DJ Vick Hope, Loose Women’s Judi Love, TV host Kym Marsh and Love Island beauty Zara McDermott.

The popular BBC series has gone through a rocky patch recently – however, there are still plans for a grand 20th-anniversary special this year.
