Bucks Fizz legend quits band that won Eurovision as fans devastated by ’43 year career’

Pop sensation Bucks Fizz have dropped a bombshell as one of their original members has decided to call it quits.

The Eurovision champs, who stormed the charts with their hit Making Your Mind Up and wowed audiences with their unforgettable skirt-ripping antics, have been rocking stages as The Fizz, featuring Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan, and Jay Aston. But now, at 69, Mike Nolan is bowing out for ‘personal reasons’, leaving fans gutted.

Over on X, which we all used to know as Twitter, The Fizz shared an ‘important notice.’ The statement confirmed: “We can confirm, following the Michael Ball show, that Mike will be leaving the group at the end of the year. Cheryl and Jay will be continuing as The Fizz and a statement from Mike, will follow in the coming days. Thank you for your understanding.”

Another chimed in: “Wishing @mikenolanfizz all the best! You are a living legend. @JayAstonC and @Cherylbaker will have to rip off their own skirts in future.”

A fan got all nostalgic, tweeting: “Really sad to hear this. Bucks Fizz were the first band I saw live back in the 80’s and I’ve been lucky to see them many times since. Gonna miss you @mikenolanfizz and best wishes to @JayAstonC and @Cherylbaker for the future. Love you guys XX.”

Mike Nolan hasn’t just rested on his Eurovision laurels; he’s been belting out tunes solo too, dropping his debut album ‘In My Life’ in early 2013. But it’s not been an easy ride for the 80s icon since his Bucks Fizz heyday.

The year 1984 hit the band with a horror story when their tour bus was mangled in a smash with a lorry, leaving all four members battered and bruised. Mike copped it bad so bad he ended up in a coma for a whopping six weeks.

He shared the harrowing memory: “I remember seeing Cheryl lying in hospital with all this oil and glass in her hair, and having the worst headache imaginable,” and went on to say: “Then I slipped into a coma for six weeks. I don’t remember anything about it, but I died and they revived me. It means I’m not scared of dying now, I’ve seen there is nothing to fear.”
