Coronation Street favourite Tracy Barlow and Tommy Orpington’s steam affair was almost exposed in an “obvious” blunder.
On Christmas Day, ITV fans were delighted to see the beloved character (played by Matt Milburn) return to Weatherfield once again. The fictional footballer has become quite the celebrity on the street, with viewers getting a glimpse inside his sporting career during his various stints on the Street.
Now the hunk has returned after his ex-wife left him and he fell on hard times after series of his businesses went bust. Now, the former sportsman is working as a decorator, and he quickly caught Tracy’s (Kate Ford) eye.

It didn’t take long before the pair took things to the next level when Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) jetted off to Paris on a work trip. But their wild week of passion was almost rumbled when her doting husband returned from France a day early to surprise her.
On Monday night (February 5), Tracy told Tommy to call in at the shop with his decorating invoice, believing they had one more day together before Steve returned home. But in true soap style, Steve had prepared a romantic gesture for the two of them after getting home early.
The doting dad worked with his father-in-law Ken Barlow and daughter Amy to prepare a French buffet to impress Tracy. Meanwhile, over at the flower shop, Tracy had turned the sign to ‘closed’ as she shared a passionate kiss with Tommy.
Moments later, Steve had spruced up his outfit and headed over to the shop which he was surprised to see was closed. While Tracy and Tommy hid behind the counter, Steve shouted out for Tracy after he spotted her handbag on the table.
Realising they had been rumbled, Tracy gingerly opened the door with Tommy behind her. Luckily, Steve didn’t think anything of it, thanked Tommy for all his hard work redecorating their home.
The loving husband even suggested that Tommy should come back and redecorate the florists before he invited him to join the romantic buffet he had organised for Tracy. After watching the bizarre scenes unfold, viewers flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to point out one “obvious” blunder Tommy and Tracy had made.
Many viewers were left scratching their heads as to why Steve didn’t suspect that the pair were having an affair despite locking themselves in the shop together and hiding behind the counter. One user fumed: “It’s obvious that Tracy and Tommy fancy each other! #corrie.”

Another agreed: “Tommy should have stayed hidden and Tracy should have said he was in the loo #Corrie.” Meanwhile another suggested: “B****y hell. Well, that doesn’t look dodgy, does it? Tracy and Tommy getting up from behind the counter IN FRONT of Steve! Poor guy #Corrie.”
A third echoed: “If Steve doesn’t catch on what’s going on there, they couldn’t have made that more obvious #corrie.” A fourth chimed in with: “Oh dear. That doesn’t look suspicious at all. #Corrie.”
Fans will have to stay tuned to see if Steve will rumble their steamy affair or if he will remain ignorant forever. Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
