Dame Judi Dench, 89, ‘can’t see anymore’ as she shares devastating career update

Dame Judi Dench has revealed that she has no plans for any more acting roles as she “can’t even see”.

The 89 year old Oscar-winning actress, known for her role in ‘Spectre’, hasn’t graced the big screen for a few years. Her last appearance was in 2022’s ‘Spirited’.

Judi is battling macular degeneration, a condition that has severely affected her sight. So much so, that it has gotten to the point where she can no longer drive or read scripts.

Speaking to Louis Theroux on his BBC show ‘Louis Theroux Interviews’, she said: “I don’t want to retire. I’m not doing much at the moment because I can’t see. It’s bad.” She added: “I have a photographic memory so a person saying to me, ”This is your line…’. I can do that .”

A few years ago, the actress had ‘carpe diem’ tattooed on her right wrist and recently told Yours magazine that she has no intention of slowing down as she gets older.

She continued: “We’ve got to keep going and not think of age too much. You have to think you are about 56. I’m a great advocate for not sitting back. I can never think, ‘Oh, my eyesight’s bad, I can’t possibly do this. I refuse to be beaten by age.”
