TV fans have been scarred by one “terrifying” series many can’t stomach.
Over in the Netflix Bangers group on Facebook, fans gathered to discuss The Handmaid’s Tale after one member wrote: “What are your thoughts on Handmaid’s Tale?”
The question sparked an in depth conversation between hundreds of the group’s members as one person wrote: “It is very good and very well done, very dark though. I had to pause it sometimes and watch something more lighthearted. I’d recommend only watching an episode or two at a time, but very good all in all. Just pretty disturbing at times.”

“Was late to game and finally watched it, Deeply disturbing and a tough watch but amazing series,” added another person as one streamer chimed in: “Great show, but it’s a lot. You’ll probably want to binge it, but take breaks if you can force yourself to.”
One fan called the show “dark, deep and brilliant,” a second said the show was “great” although “scary,” a third gushed that the series is “terrifying and terrific” while a fourth said the plot “hits too close to home”.
“I think it’s becoming more of a documentary than dystopian fiction sadly enough,” theorised one person in the group. “Excellent look into a very possible future,” speculated another.
“No thanks, I don’t like reality TV. I had to stop into season 2 [because] of how intense and stressful it became. I tried again much later, nope! Stopped at the same part as before and couldn’t finish. It’s a fantastic show, just a lot to process,” typed someone else.
The Handmaid’s Tale is a drama series that ran for five seasons starting back in 2017. The show stars Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, Alexis Bledel, Joseph Fiennes, Ann Dowd, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella, Amanda Brugel and O-T Fagbenie.
Set in a dystopian future, The Handmaid’s Tale is based on the 1985 book of the same name by Margaret Atwood. The story follows Offred, a Handmaid – a fertile woman sentenced to child-bearing slavery – as she navigates life in a totalitarian society.
The Handmaid’s Tale is available to watch in the UK on Amazon Prime Video.
