Emmerdale viewers were on the edge of their seats on Wednesday evening (November 20) as Moira Dingle, portrayed by Natalie J Robb, underwent a critical brain surgery following her tumour diagnosis.
Her spouse Cain, played by Jeff Hordley, was left reeling from the stress of Moira’s daunting operation. Instead of waiting at the hospital for news, a distraught Cain returned to the village where he made a series of disastrous choices, including getting intoxicated, assaulting Jimmy King (Nick Miles), and sleeping with his sister-in-law Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly).
When Cain got back to the hospital, his brother Sam Dingle (James Hooton) remarked on his drunken state, before revealing that there had been a complication during Moira’s surgery but it had gone well.
A remorseful Cain visited Moira’s bedside, but when she asked him to hold her hand, he was already doing so, indicating a potential issue. “Cain, hold my hand,” Moira requested, to which he responded: “I’m holding it. I love you.”
This poignant scene has sparked worry among Emmerdale fans who are concerned for Moira’s life. One viewer took to Facebook to express their concern: “Moira couldn’t feel Cain’s hand more problems to come? ”
Another responded: “They said she had a fit and there was a lot of bleeding … maybe she did die during the op and they’d why she saw Holly.”, reports Leeds Live.
A third added: “I thought that. Think there trouble ahead.” As another agreed: “Thought the same.” “Maybe she had a stroke after surgery and wont recover,” another speculated. (sic).
Opening up about her first thoughts when she was told about her latest hard-hitting storyline, Natalie J Robb, who has played Moira for 15 years said: “I was really excited. Everyone goes ‘Were you worried they are going to kill you off?’ but she [producer] kind of assured me of that straight away. When people decide to do that for you, that’s in the lap of the Gods and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
