Freaky Netflix film gives fans ‘so many questions’ over baffling hidden message

Netflix fans can’t stop raving about one eerie thriller set in a creepy alternate world.

Over in the Netflix Bangers group on Facebook someone said: “Love it. Read the hidden message in it,” while another added: “Kind of freaky but a good watch.” More Netflix fans said they “enjoyed” the Hollywood flick as one confused viewer typed: “It’s good but it just leaves you with so many questions.”

Another Facebook user urged streamers to give the film another shot: “I watched it [three] times. There is so much detail and hidden things in it, once wouldn’t do. I really like it. You have to really pay attention.”

More fans said that the film “makes you think,” that it was a “good story” and branded the flick “top class”. However, some people were slightly disappointed as they “wanted more” because the ending “left them divided”.

Julia Roberts stars in the 2023 thriller

Leave the World Behind is an apocalyptic psychological thriller released last year. Starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke and Kevin Bacon, the film premiered at AFI Fest in October before it was released to theatres and then Netflix.

It follows the story of Amanda, who organises a weekend away with her husband and their two children. Things take a turn for the weird when they spot a man stocking up on canned food and water while at the supermarket.

The star-studded cast give a fantastic performance

The group eventually learns that a cyber attack has had “catastrophic environmental effects” in the area they are staying. Following scenes include teeth falling out, creepy deer in the garden, strange media alerts that don’t make sense and loud noises suggesting alarm.

Upon release, the star-studded thriller has received overall positive reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes consensus says: “An exceptionally well-acted apocalyptic thriller, Leave The World Behind steadily draws the viewer in despite its leisurely pace and somewhat simplistic messaging.”

Fans were blown away by the freaky film

For The Washington Post, Michael O’Sullivan reviewed: “It plays like an M. Night Shyamalan movie but without the supernatural element and with a thick vein of social critique running throughout. What happens may be extreme, but it feels based on mundane reality.”
