Gladiators’ bad boy Legend was accused of cheating after apparently bending the rules during the latest show.
Legend – who has become the villain on the BBC reboot of the 90s hit – caused a kerfuffle during the Gauntlet, leaving his opponent Jake looking pretty miffed. The game sees contenders trying to run through a lane filled with Gladiators who have to block them with huge foam pads.
During last weekend’s instalment, Legend was one of the four Gladiators taking part and seemed to break a rule as he tried to get in Jake’s way when he’d already passed him. He insisted he hadn’t cheated, but ended up getting a telling off from the ref.

Contender Jake had dashed through the Gauntlet with barely any problems the first time around. Back for the quarter-final, he was determined to make it through the challenge fast.
Legend, whose real name is Matt Morsia, blocked Jake in his section of the run but the hopeful eventually made it through. Once he got through to the next ‘zone’ it should have been up to the next Gladiator in the line to push him back.
But Legend continued to block him. As it was apparently breaking the rules, the referee blew the whistle and the game was halted while he reprimanded the unrepentant Gladiator.
When the Gauntlet ended, the show’s host Bradley Walsh noted that Jake looked “pumped up”. “I did it in nine seconds last time,” the contestant fumed. “I blame Legend for this run. He had to cheat to beat me. Are you kidding?”
Legend insisted he hadn’t cheated so Bradley asked the ref for his take on what happened. He replied: “When Jake left Legend’s zone, Legend carried on to fight Jake, so therefore…”
However, the rest of his answer was drowned out because Legend started talking. “The entire gauntlet is my zone, that’s what you told me!” he insisted, adding that he’d been told he had “free roll”.
Legend has become a real talking point of the series thanks to his supreme confidence and the way he regularly grabs the limelight by swiping Brad’s mic and addressing the crowd. He recently described himself as “spellbinding”, telling the audience: “Some of you will be shocked to hear this but I am not the best Gladiator on this show… I am the best Gladiator of all time.”
