GMB’s Ben Shephard ‘trying to hold it together’ on last day — but co-star takes swipe

Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard has said his goodbyes to the ITV show.

The long-running programme returned for another instalment on Friday (February 23) with Ben and Kate Garraway back at the helm. But for TV favourite Ben – it was his final day on the ITV show.

Last week it was announced that Ben, 49, along with Cat Deeley would be taking over This Morning, after Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby left last year. So now after a decade, Ben will bid goodbye to Good Morning Britain.

And as expected, the GMB team couldn’t help but mention it within minutes of the show airing on Friday (February 23). Kate said: “Oh my God.

Ben said his goodbyes to GMB

“It’s not even a minute past six and that’s the last time I’ve just realised we’ll hear ‘Good Morning Britain with Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway’. I’m off already, too emotional!”

Ben then chimed in and added: “I’m desperately trying to hold this together, we’ve got three hours. It’s lovely to be here for the last time. And we’ve got a busy show to get through as well.”

Charlotte Hawkins then gushed: “It’s quite a moment. We’ll be doing our best to keep it together today. Kate quipped: “We have got three hours of other stuff, it’s not just all Ben Shepard mania. Although it is about 92%.” Ben cheekily replied: “That’s a percentage I’ll take!”

Later on, the tributes kept coming for Ben, with Kate reading out some from viewers at home. She said. “We’re all going to miss Ben in the mornings. The cheeky smile, the risky innuendoes.” Kate then quipped: “Yeah, our producers are slightly relieved about that!”

Cat and Ben will be the new This Morning hosting duo from Monday through Thursday, while Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary will continue their duties on a Friday.

He spoke about his decision to quit GMB earlier this week on the show. Ben said: “Thank you very much for the amazing messages that I have had.

“Obviously, it’s something I considered very, very carefully because these guys have been my family for the last 10 years for some of them and way, way longer for us [Kate]. So, it’s not something that I’ve taken lightly but it feels like quite an exciting opportunity.”
