GMB’s Kate Garraway red-faced as co-star shoots down her cheeky hair dye dig

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway sent the show into a spin after making a sly dig at co-host Robert Rinder.

Kate, 56, was hosting Friday’s edition of the ITV show (May 17), together with former TV judge Robert, 45. The hosting pair had been giving viewers a run-down on biggest news stories of the day.

As well as this, the duo were also joined in the studio by news presenter Charlotte Hawkins, who presented the news bulletin at the top of the hour. However, at the end of her last bulletin for the day, she set the show up for an accidental gaffe that had the hosts screaming with laughter.

Earlier on in the show, Robert had explained that he had got rid of a lot of photographs from a certain period in his life. Hawkins, 49, jokingly said that his mum would be getting in touch with old photos from this time, but secretly admitted she did not expect anything to come from it.

But later in the programme, she revealed that Robert’s mum had in fact got in touch and shared a snap of the TV judge’s graduation snap. In the picture, Robert can be seen in his university graduate robes, as well as holding his diploma as he beamed with a smile to the camera.

Kate, having just seen the snap, admired Rob’s look, before making a cheeky dig that had everyone in stitches. After initially praising Rinder for his looks, Garraway said: “It’s great that you always had that bleach blond look, even back then!”

A bemused Rob did not respond as he tried to take in the comment, as Charlotte began to laugh hysterically. Kate, not having realised her gaffe, tried to explain herself further, saying that she believed he always had been bleaching his hair blond.

But Robert was quick to jump on her idea, asking: “What do you mean, ‘bleach blond’?” Garraway, hesitating for a moment, asked in return: “Wait, you’re not bleach blond?” to which Robert shook his head.

Meanwhile, Charlotte, who had been trying to keep herself together, burst into laughter and sank behind the desk as she tried to regain her composure. This then prompted the main hosts to lose it, with Robert doing all he could to keep back the giggles.

However, it was soon established that Kate’s sly dig was in fact a joke. Before cutting away from the programme, Kate said: “Let’s get the latest news, travel and weather wherever you are, whilst I try to dig myself out of a hole!”

As the cameras panned away from the desk, Kate could still be heard, saying: “You’re definitely a natural blond, you’re clearly a natural blond!” Thankfully, both Robert and Charlotte were quick to regather themselves, as Kate began to giggle as the feed went to regional news bulletins.

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
