Ice Cube claims FBI warned NWA about their lyrics but it just made them ‘big as f**k’

A letter sent from the FBI to N.W.A about their controversial debut album made them “big as f**k”, according to Ice Cube.

Mr Cube, who turns 55 on Saturday, June 15, shared on the Joe Rogan Experience that the authorities wanted to pull Straight Outta Compton off the shelves. The rap star-turned-Hollywood actor said that their provocative songs were a red flag to cops.

He said they felt that tracks like F**k tha Police could stir up anti-law enforcement sentiments. Cube, also known as O’Shea Jackson Sr, revealed that Priority Records was worried about the message, but it ended up working in their favour.

“You guys got a song on there called F**k The Police and we think this song could encourage people to go against law enforcement. We’d like it if you guys took it off the shelf’.

“Priority Records call us up there panicking, just like ‘man you got to come here, we gotta talk to you’.”

Cube stated that when they arrived, the team retrieved a letter and seemed worried.

He added “We’re looking like ‘A letter that’s all you get? You’re not gonna come in here and arrest us, cuff us, rough us up? Y’all scared over a f*****g letter, come back come back to South Central with us you know, I mean deal with the sheriffs down there do way more than give you a letter’.

“Easy-E was like ‘we’re gonna be big as f**k after this’.

“Then we made the letter public and they kind of just backed off, and then it became this big story of the FBI hates this group.”

He told Rogan that their infamy as the “world’s most dangerous group” grew because of the publicity surrounding the letter. The band made it to magazine covers with the headline ‘The FBI hates this group’ on their photo.

Cube claimed that his group had never before heard that the government and politicians were interested in rap music.

“They didn’t come after me but all these other different agencies was starting to hit us up,” he said.

“They started going after Ice-T a little bit because Body Count did a song called Cop Killer. It was a time when we grew up real fast.

“We had to understand that this is bigger than hip-hop, and we gotta stand up for what we know is true and right.”
