Jeremy Clarkson dealt another crushing blow after life-saving heart surgery

Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he has suffered a second blow after his recent health scare.

The former Top Gear presenter, 64, revealed in his Sunday column that he had suffered a “sudden deterioration” in his health. He admitted that he was taken into hospital for emergency surgery on his heart, which – if left untreated – could have nearly killed him.

In the piece published in the Sunday Times, he explained that he had started to develop worrying symptoms such as struggling to walk up the stairs, and a failed “attempt” at swimming. But this was not the only thing that was a cause for concern for the host.

Taking to his Instagram account, the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host said that one of his dogs was undergoing emergency surgery of their own. This was due to the fact that the pooch had contracted a life-threatening disease called pyometra.

The disease, which can be serious and debilitating for dogs, comes from an infection of the uterus – which in turn causes bacteria in the dog, which can only worsen symptoms. Despite trying to focus on his own health, Grand Tour star Jeremy said: “The poor thing is under the knife as we speak.”

Keeping it simple, he added: “She has pyometra. S**t week.” The post garnered a huge response from well-wishers, who hope that his mutt would be okay; one fan penned: “I’m really sorry, I hope she recovers.”

A second added: “Wishing your doggo a speedy recovery.” Whilst a third gave their own experience: “Aw, it’s always a massive worry – but hopefully surgery is successful and she will make such a quick recovery, they bounce back much quicker than humans.”

It comes as the Clarkson’s Farm presenter battles his own health woes after opening up about getting emergency medical care. Writing candidly about his ordeal, Jeremy said that he had felt “tightness in his chest”, as well as “pins and needles in his left arm” – the textbook signs of a heart attack.

An ambulance rushed him to a hospital in Oxford that initially ruled out a heart attack. However, further tests revealed that one artery had been fully blocked, and a second was nearly full, putting his health at grave risk.

He was then forced to undergo emergency surgery to insert a stent to keep the blocked artery open and restore circulation to his heart. Recalling the surgery, Jeremy described the procedure as “not especially painful, just odd”.

This has, however, opened Jeremy’s eyes to his health issues, as he admitted that he had a brush with death during the incident. He has since opened up and said that he is becoming more worried about his health, adding: “I don’t have long left.”

This is not the first time Jeremy has shared his concerns about his health, as he confessed he worries about developing dementia. He revealed that he is already at high risk due to his hearing loss, and that his “memory is shot” most of the time.
