Liam Payne’s girlfriend reportedly demanded he chose her – or drugs before his death.
Liam and Kate Cassidy had been holidaying in Argentina in the days leading up to Liam’s death last month as he had to apply to renew his visa for America, where he was planning to live with the model. Payne’s visa had reportedly expired due to his history of drug use and rehab stints, meaning he had to undergo medical examinations and drug tests before being given the all clear.
The star tragically fell to his death aged just 31 on October 16. The One Direction star died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an “internal and external haemorrhage”. Reports claim Kate has told friends she gave him an ultimatum to stop using drugs.

It was believed that Liam had been clean from drugs prior to his drug tests, which he ultimately passed and was about to be granted a visa again. But it’s said he started taking narcotics and drinking alcohol shortly after undergoing such tests, reports the Mirror.

A source told the New York Post: “His drug use was causing a lot of drama. So she gave him an ultimatum: her or the drugs. He chose the drugs, so she had no choice but to remove herself from the situation. She thought she was doing tough love.” Kate and Liam had originally planned to stay in the Latin American country for just five days – but it became two weeks, something she didn’t want.
She revealed on social media she “hated” staying in one place for a long period of time and needed to return to their home in Florida. The source continued claiming that Kate has told friends she was a “hostage situation” as their holiday continued to extend. “It was becoming very unhealthy for everyone. She hoped he would follow her back to Miami,” the source added.
Two days after Liam’s heartbreaking death, Kate took to social media to share a moving tribute to her late partner. She shared the love she had for her late boyfriend and admitted she’s “at a loss”. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
In a statement released a week after Liam’s death, Kate said Liam was planning to propose to her before the end of 2024. She said: “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words. I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone-millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved.

“You are because I can’t say were-my best friend, the love of my life, and everyone you touched felt just as special as I did. Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into. None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things.
“Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I’ve lost the best part of myself. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.” She continued: “A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together. I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it. It said, “Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and together forever 444.” Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel.”
Concluding her shattering post, Katie wrote: “I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go. Forever yours, Katelyn 444.” The angel number, 444, conveys a message of love, support as well as guidance from your angel.
