Matthew Perry’s doctor is expected to plead guilty after the star’s heartbreaking death.
The San Diego doctor is set to plead guilty in a Los Angeles federal court for his role in distributing the surgical anaesthetic ketamine distribution conspiracy. Dr Mark Chavez, 54, signed a plea deal with prosecutors in August and will become the third person to admit guilt following the overdose death of “Friends” star Matthew last year.
Prosecutors offered reduced charges to Chavez and two others in exchange for their cooperation, as they pursue two other individuals deemed more culpable for Perry’s death: another doctor and an alleged Los Angeles “ketamine queen”.

Chavez, who is currently free on bail after surrendering his passport and medical licence, is said by his lawyer to be “incredibly remorseful” and is attempting to rectify the situation. Perry’s assistant and an acquaintance are also collaborating with federal prosecutors, having admitted to helping Perry obtain and inject ketamine and acting as a drug messenger, respectively.
The trio are allegedly helping the law in their case against Dr Salvador Plasencia, who’s been slapped with charges for flogging ketamine illegally to Perry before his death, and Jasveen Sangha, the woman accused of selling the deadly dose to the actor. Both are sticking to their not guilty pleas while they wait for their day in court.
Chavez owned up in his plea deal that he took ketamine from his old clinic and a wholesaler, where he put forward a dodgy prescription. After pleading guilty, he’s looking at a possible time behind bars when it’s time for sentencing, reports the Mirror.
Perry was discovered lifeless by his assistant on October 28. The coroner found that ketamine was the main reason behind his death. The actor had been taking the drug for depression, which is an unconventional treatment that’s getting more popular.
The actor wanted more ketamine than his doctor would dish out. and roughly a month before he died, he met Plasencia, who then roped in Chavez to score the drugs.
“I wonder how much this moron will pay,” Plasencia said to Chavez. The pair met in Costa Mesa, a halfway house between Los Angeles and San Diego, and swapped at least four vials of the stuff.
After pocketing $4,500 (£3,390) from Perry for the gear, Plasencia hit up Chavez to see if they could keep the supply flowing and become Perry’s “go-to.”
Matthew’s battle with addiction spanned years, originating from his stint on the iconic sitcom “Friends,” where he rose to fame as the lovable Chandler Bing. During his time on the show, which aired from 1994 to 2004, he shared the screen with co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer for ten seasons.
