Mystery of Malcom in the Middle star who disappeared as cast were told ‘keep quiet’

The mystery surrounding a Malcom in the Middle star has been solved.

Actor Erik Per Sullivan played cute-but-crafty kid Dewey in the beloved US sitcom, which ran for five seasons from 2000 until 2006. But he disappeared from the spotlight after the show and people have been wondering where he is for the best part of a decade.

Malcom in the Middle followed child genius Malcom (played by Frankie Muniz) and his chaotic family, including dad Hal who was played by Breaking Bad legend Bryan Cranston. Frankie recently appeared in the Jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia.

However, his co-star Erik, who played Malcom’s younger brother, has gone off the radar and now lives a very different life indeed. Even Frankie admitted he didn’t know what Erik was up to, but his whereabouts was finally revealed by his co-star Jane Kaczmarek, who played Dewey’s mum Lois.

And it turns out the cast were told to “keep quiet” about what happened to Erik since he turned his back on fame. Luckily, though, he’s doing rather well for himself.

She told Malcom France, a YouTube channel dedicated to the sitcom: “He’s well, he’s very, very well. He did Malcolm for seven years, he started at seven, he ended at 14.

“He wasn’t interested in acting, at all. He goes to school at a very prestigious American university that he’s asked us all to be quiet about and he loves Charles Dickens.

“He’s doing graduate work in Victorian literature. I admire it because so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world, it’s not for everyone”.

Frankie, who has spoken to Erik a few times since the show, shared his sadness at not having kept in touch with his former co-star more. He said: “To be honest, I don’t know what he’s up to. I hate to say that because I’ve talked to him a few times since the show ended. I’ve talked to his parents a lot.

When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show but unfortunately he couldn’t make it. So I got to talk to them, and he’s been all over doing a lot of different things.

“But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight. I think that’s what he wanted to do so good for him.”
