Little Mix star Perrie Edwards has spoken candidly about her beloved dog Hatchi, revealing he’s under the weather.
The 31-year-old singer appeared on BBC Breakfast on Monday morning (October 7) to discuss her latest single and hectic schedule. In conversation with presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay, Perrie opened up about her experiences as a solo artist and juggling family responsibilities.
As the show displayed photos of Perrie with her three-year-old son Axel, Jon also mentioned her furry companion after spotting him in one of the on-screen images. While discussing her various commitments, Perrie mentioned: “And having a dog, yes! He’s a bit poorly now little Hatchi. He’s getting a bit old, he’s got an awful cough.”
The presenters expressed their surprise, prompting Perrie to continue: “Yeah, so it’s worrying me, Hatchi. I’ve had him for years! He’s like twelve now and he’s like my best friend.”
Sally chimed in, saying: “Your other baby,” reports the Express. Perrie nodded in agreement, saying: “My other baby. The furball that taught me how to be a mum. He taught me responsibilities so I think that was good.”
Perrie and her ex-fiance, Zayn Malik, adopted Hatchi, a Pomeranian, back in November 2012. Following their split, Perrie decided to keep the canine companion.
In 2021, the songstress disclosed that her dog Hatchi had become increasingly needy since she and her beau Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain welcomed their son, Axel. Posting a picture of her pooch on social media, the new mum demonstrated to fans how she was being overwhelmed by her pet’s demand for attention.
She captioned the image: “For all you people who keep asking ‘How’s Hatchi since the baby arrived?'” She ended with the single word, “clingy”.
Alongside giving followers a glimpse into her bustling family life, Perrie was also quizzed about whether she still communicates with her Little Mix bandmates. Despite currently being on a break, Little Mix is presently made up of Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie.
Former member Jesy Nelson chose to leave the band in 2020. Discussing her new solo track, You Go Your Way, Jon asked: “I also guess it’s about going your own from the band.
“How is it with you guys, you’re all doing your own things. Do you still keep in touch?”
Perrie responded: “Yes absolutely.” She further added: “Both of the girls have messaged me about You Go Your Way, they love the song and they posted about it. We still chat often.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
