X Factor star Lloyd Daniels is engaged 15 years after he was “forced” to his relationship with another man.
The singer soared to fame when he appeared as a contestant on the ITV competition aged 16 in 2009. Lloyd, now 31, has announced that he is set to walk down the aisle with his actor beau Joel Harper-Jackson.
On Instagram, the Welsh star reposted a video of the romantic proposal which took place during a trip to Paris. At the beginning of the clip, Lloyd realised what his partner was about to do as he muttered: “You’re not? You’re lying to me!”

As Joel got down on one knee, Lloyd put his hands on his face as he continually asked if it was all a joke. A stunned Lloyd planted a kiss on his husband-to-be as he accepted his proposal, staged in front of the Eiffel Tower.
Joel wrote in the caption: “Yep. How could I not ask him? He’s changed my life and changed me for the better. I’m honoured to be calling this wonderful human being my fiancé.”
Lloyd added: “We’re engaged! I’ve never been so happy. I love you.” In 2020, the former TV personality admitted he felt pressured to hide his same-sex relationship while taking part in The X Factor.
Speaking about his time on the series during an Instagram Live, Lloyd revealed he clicked with someone but couldn’t be open about his first gay relationship publicly. He explained: “I met someone on the show and we really clicked.
“I’d never had that emotion towards guys. I knew it was more than a friendship and it slowly unfolded. I ended up being with them for over a year. It was odd to accept it because I was going through a huge change in my life joining the music industry, I thought ‘am I going mad?’ I felt off-colour.”
At the time, Lloyd felt he couldn’t be open about his sexuality because his marketing was aimed at teenage girls. “The hardest part about it was not being able to talk about it. I won’t say I was under oath, but to that somewhat extent I couldn’t talk about it because of my status,” the star explained.
He added: “I had to aim my marketing towards teenage girls, that was what was going to sell the whole ‘Lloyd Daniels, X Factor self’. I felt really suppressed, like I wasn’t being my true self. It was really, really hard. I totally get that’s how the music industry works. It’s different now to how it was ten years ago.”
