Benidorm’s Sherrie Hewson gives huge hint about return of ITV comedy

Sherrie Hewson, who played Solana Hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage in the popular ITV show, details how she gets “asked about it every day”, and people “miss it desperately”

Sherrie Hewson has teased fans with a major hint about Benidorm’s potential comeback, revealing that viewers “miss it desperately”. Sherrie, who portrayed Solana Hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage across six series of the cherished ITV comedy, explained that Benidorm continues to be “so popular”, despite wrapping up in 2018 following 10 series and 74 episodes.

The show boasted an ensemble cast featuring stars such as Johnny Vegas (Geoff Maltby), Jake Canuso (Mateo), and Steve Pemberton (Mick Garvey), chronicling the adventures of British tourists at an all-inclusive Benidorm resort.

Meanwhile, Sherrie is “thankful” for her time on the show, but appears eager for it to return. Indeed, she suggested that fans feel the same way, and she gets “asked about it every day”.

During a recent chat, Sherrie voiced her affection for her character Joyce, whom she says was crafted with her “in mind”. She also touched on the show’s possible revival, tantalisingly mentioning a “green light”.

Speaking to Bella magazine, Sherrie revealed: “We’re waiting for the green light, so fingers crossed. It’s still so popular. I get asked about it every single day of my life. People say they miss it desperately.

“The fact that it’s constantly on streaming channels shows you how loved it is. We could definitely do with a new series. I adore Joyce. I was so lucky and thankful to get such a wonderful role.

“She was written with me in mind – she may be nasty at times, but she always seems to get things wrong, which is very endearing.”

This isn’t the first occasion that Sherrie has spoken about a potential revival of the programme. Back in October 2025, Sherrie revealed to The Mirror that they were all “campaigning for it to come back”.

She explained: “We are hoping desperately that it comes back and we’d love it because we’d get to go back to Benidorm. I love the character Joyce Temple-Savage. Darren Litten wrote that and I thought it was one of the best characters I’ve ever played.

“I would love it to come back. We’ll see, watch this space. There isn’t a comedy on ITV at the moment so it needs it to come back. I’m waiting to hear and I’d catch the plane today.”

In comments about older television viewers, Sherrie claimed that they were treated like “coffin dodgers”. It came as a report called The Upper Third found that more than a quarter of fans reportedly felt forgotten by producers.

Chatting about the campaign, Sherrie called it “long overdue”, saying that modern television “chases the young” and forgets the “rest”. She went on to point out an apparent lack of representation in adverts.

She continued: “Look at the adverts on television, you never see older people in adverts unless they’re in a funeral parlour or a cremation or life insurance. It’s like we’re being treated like coffin dodgers or something.”
