Hollyoaks legend Nick Pickard fears he’ll be killed off next time a new boss takes over
Nick Pickard fears he’ll be axed from Hollyoaks. The actor thinks he could be at risk if the soap gets a new boss.
Even though he’s been on it since it launched in 1995, he still doesn’t feel safe. Nick, who plays Tony Hutchinson, said: “Now I’ve been on Hollyoaks for 30 years, I’d like to stay indefinitely. “I’ll go when they tell me I’ve got to go. I hope that’s not soon… but you never know in this business.
“You can be there one minute and be gone the next. If the show gets a new boss and they want you out to make room for someone else, you can be gone.
“It’s like being in a football team when there’s a new manager.”
Nick has been at the centre of the action in recent months with big storylines for the 30th anniversary episodes and over Christmas.
The star is hoping that means he’s got a job for the foreseeable future. He added: ‘You like to think if you keep your head and keep working, you’ll be OK.
“As far as I know I’m part of the furniture. I think I’m safe for a little bit.”
Some of Nick’s co-stars have previously admitted they worry about being killed off.
Jessica Fox, who plays Nancy, said: “If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that no one is guaranteed to stay.
“You just have to cross your fingers and toes that you will.”
Ashley Taylor Dawson, who plays Darren, said: “Anyone can go. That’s the industry we’re in.
“You never take anything for granted. If it’s your time, it’s your time. You just have to deal with it.”
Jennifer Metcalfe also thinks she could be axed despite being one of the soap’s biggest stars.
She said: “Being a soap actress is a job where you don’t have much control.
“If somebody wants to kill you off because that works for the storyline, then that’s what will happen.
“But I don’t dwell on that. Whatever will be will be. If it happens, I will figure something out.
“The nature of the job is that it can all be there one minute and not there the next.”
