Musclebound dancer from The Shamen video is A-lister and people have only just realised

The Shamen were a psychedelic band that were all the rave in the 90s, but it’s a background dancer in one of their music videos that has stunned fans into disbelief.

In a delightful discovery from the internet’s treasure trove, sharp-eyed fans have unearthed an A-list actor’s cameo in a 90s music video.

Scottish psychedelic band The Shamen were a sensation in the 1990s. Originating from Aberdeen in 1985 and initially known as Alone Again Or, they rocketed to fame with their chart-topping single Ebeneezer Goode and subsequent hit album Boss Drum (1992).

By the early 90s, this electronic dance act was a regular feature on the UK Singles Chart, winning over legions of fans.

One of their popular tracks, Comin’ On Strong, holds a hidden gem in its music video.

Attentive viewers have spotted a background dancer who seems to outshine the rest – and it’s not someone you’d typically expect to be oiled up and gyrating in a 90s rave music video.

Jason Statham, renowned for his action-packed roles, deadpan dialogue delivery, and films far removed from The Shamen’s EDM beats, can be seen busting a move in the backdrop of Comin’ On Strong.

The revelation has sent the internet into a frenzy, with fans struggling to believe that it’s indeed The Transporter star shaking a leg in leopard-print briefs behind the lead singer.

While one Facebook user hailed it as “Jason’s finest performance,” another Reddit user said, “Okay. Alright. I see you, Jason. A whole lot of you.”

One social media enthusiast couldn’t mask their astonishment: “When you said dancing I thought he was breakdancing in the background or something.. definitely not whatever this is.”

Another pointed out more of Jason’s groovy appearances: “He was also in Erasure’s video for Run to the Sun in ’94. Man did a lot of dancing in the early 90’s.”

Some fans were full of admiration for Jason’s grind and dedication, with one saying: “This guy’s the definition of hustle, diver, dancer, model, martial artist, actor, transporter, beekeeper, mechanic…legend!”

Another added: “A job is a job. Work is work. Nothing wrong with that. Respect,” and a third fan wrote: “After I realised what Jason endured to succeed, my respect toward him grew exponentially.”

One Redditor humorously likened Jason’s dancing to adult content: “I don’t fully know what I expected when I read that he was a background dancer. But I certainly did not expect THX 1138 porn channel dancing.”

A YouTube comment under the music video cheekily reads: “One Jason Statham on the screen is never enough. Even the director knew this in 1992.”

Meanwhile, another fan gushed: “Ok but legitimately no one went harder in that video than Statham. The whole thing is just a work of psychedelic genius though.”

Some punters are even drawing inspiration from Jason’s hip-swivelling moves, with one saying: “Jason Statham in this video is the vibe I’m going into 2026 with.”

Another kept it real: “It’s not even embarrassing because his dancing is good.”

One cheeky observer said: “And they say that Statham doesn’t have range, this will show them haters.”

The Shamen’s original lineup featured Colin Angus, Derek McKenzie and Keith McKenzie, with Peter Stephenson coming aboard shortly after the group’s inception to handle keyboard duties from Angus.

Will Sinnott also became part of the musical collective, though he tragically died in May 1991 after getting caught in dangerous currents whilst swimming in Tenerife, reports the Mirror.

The Shamen had travelled there to shoot the promotional clip for their smash hit Move Any Mountain.

Rapper Mr. C then became a permanent fixture in 1991, marking the moment The Shamen truly exploded onto the scene, rapidly establishing themselves as a household name and essential soundtrack for the decade’s rave culture.
