A Place in the Sun house hunters shared why one of the presenters took them by surprise, as they discussed their experience on the show
A couple, who featured on A Place in the Sun, have says one of the show’s presenters was “nothing like you’d expect him to be in real life”. Five years ago, expats Neil and Sarah sold everything to retire early and decided to use the show as a platform to find their dream property overseas.
Following their appearance on the programme in November 2023, the duo shared some behind-the-scenes secrets, including their experience working with presenter Lee Juggurnauth, who joined the show in 2021.
Speaking on their YouTube channel, 2GoRoam Travels, Neil remembered being informed that Laura Hamilton would be showing them around the properties, but instead, it was Lee who turned up.
Discussing his opinion of the presenter, Neil said: “Now, I know a lot of people, because I’ve spoken to a lot of people, have a certain view about Lee.
“They think he’s a bit full of himself and [he’s] not [they’re] favourite presenter.”
However, after spending considerable time with him, Neil stated that Lee was different from what people might assume.
“Let me tell you this, having been on the show, I would not do it any other way,” he declared.
“That guy is phenomenal, he’s funny, he’s hilarious.”
On the moment they met him, Neil recalled Lee complaining about issues he had with the airline he had travelled with.
“He just suggested to us that he didn’t think he’d fly with them ever again,” he disclosed.
“He did it in a fairly expressive way to the extent that JP, the director, was staring him down going, ‘Lee, this is Neil and Sarah, these are the people who are going to be buying the property this week’.
“[He was like] ‘Ah, sorry’ anyway, that was our first introduction to him.
“He’s a really, really funny bloke, a really, really nice bloke and probably nothing like you’d expect him to be in real life.”
Neil continued: “I know we haven’t spent time in the UK for five years, but I know he’s on telly quite a lot these days. Just respect [that] probably what you see on TV is a persona, who he really is is something different.”
Sarah chimed in: “He had us in stitches.”
Neil further revealed that they truly got to know Lee over a coffee a few days into house hunting.
“This is when we started to realise that he’s a very, very human person,” he shared.
“He’s a very interesting character and a really likeable person.”
With the assistance of Lee and the team, the couple managed to secure their dream home in the village of Rojales and have since used their social media channel to help others make the big move.
A Place In The Sun continues today at 3pm on Channel 4.
