Anne Nolan took anxiety pills over fear she'd die from Covid amid cancer battle

Coleen Nolan’s sister Anne has opened up about living in fear that either she or someone close to her would die from Covid-19 as the pandemic forced the nation inside during 2020.

The former chart-topper has spoken candidly about turning to therapy and being prescribed anxiety pills to cope with the fear while both she and her sister Linda battled cancer.

Writing in their book, Stronger together which is released today, Anne said: “Through lockdown I think we have all come to realise our time with loved ones is priceless and those times as a family at the Bingo are something I really miss, the camaraderie of being together.”

Adding of being stuck inside, she continued: “You start overthinking everything and magnifying things that normally would be meaningless into a big deal.

“I’ve actually got a physiologist, recommended by my doctor, to talk to about these things.

“When she asked me what worries me I said ‘well I’m fighting to stay alive. I don’t want to die.’

“But I think that’s because of the cancer; I’ve always worried about dying but having cancer makes me think about it and worry about dying much more than I ordinarily would.”

Anne goes on to add that she was recommend tablets to cope with her growing anxiety – something she had never suffered before.

Despite going through “divorce, nearly dying giving birth to my oldest daughter, fighting cancer in 2000” the singer says anxiety was a new battle brought on by lockdown.

She continued: “I think what made me so anxious this time is that horrible allergic reaction I suffered to the chemo and then thinking I was going to die from this; it was so fast and all a shock.

“That coupled with the pandemic being a backdrop – living in fear of catching Covid and dying that way, fears of Covid taking members of my family or friends, not being able to hug my family and friend.

“It’s been the most unsettling and upsetting of time but as we ease our way out of third lockdown and with me now having the vaccine, I think my anxiety is getting better.”
