Masked Dancer bosses forced to reject egg costume as it 'looked like boobs'

The Masked Dancer chiefs had to axe one of the costumes on their family show as it looked like a pair of boobs.

Designers for the programme, fronted by Joel Dommett, created an outfit based on two hard-boiled eggs for a celebrity to squeeze into.

But when they took a look at the finished garment, it caused a few blushes.

Show producer Dan Nettleton explained: “We have just rejected a costume idea for the next series of The Masked Singer. The two things looked like boobs. That was binned and so it’s back to the drawing board.”

Fellow producer Derek McClean added: “It was meant to be two hard-boiled eggs. It wasn’t appropriate. It was a good costume though.”

The team from Bandicoot, who make the ITV show, admits that not all the costumes start out as fabulous as they appear on screen.

Derek recalled how The Seahorse disguise for Mel B earlier this year was a disaster at first.

He added: “It looked like she had been put in a shellsuit and it was diabolical. We were like: ‘What?’ And it was for our biggest booking really.

“But until the celebrity is actually in that costume you don’t know if it’s gonna hit or fit.”

This is the first-ever edition of Masked Dancer UK, with 12 famous faces hiding behind elaborate costumes, winning the public over with their dance moves.

The judges – comedian Mo Gilligan, talk show host Jonathan Ross, professional dancer Oti Mabuse, and fitness whizz Davina McCall – have admitted the show is jam-packed with clues.

Giving fans a sense of the drama to come, Mo, speaking at the press launch, explained: “With this, there are clues everywhere.

“There are clues on the stage, there are clues in the songs, what they say, in the song titles, and then you get the clue packages.

“So half the time I sit there and I’m just like, ‘I’m going to do my shopping list for the week, because I have no clue, it’s that hard’. But also it’s good so you can get up and really have a dance.”

The Masked Dancer, from Saturday 29 th May at 7pm on ITV and the ITV Hub.
