I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! looks set to become a Battle of the Soaps this year, as two late arrivals have officially been confirmed by ITV.
Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson – known for playing Steve McDonald on the cobbles – and EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt, AKA Ian Beale, were both confirmed for the existing line-up in the castle on Wednesday.
The duo will be joining the cast on Thursday’s show.
And it means all three of the UK’s most popular soaps will be going head-to-head to be crowned King of the Castle, with Emmerdale’s Danny Miller already securely inside Gwrych Castle.
The late arrivals format is a familiar one, as in 2019 Corrie star Andy Whyment and Call The Midwife actor Cliff Parisi entered the I’m A Celebrity Jungle together, already deep into the jungle stint.
Simon has played Steve on Corrie since 1989, having gone through his fair share of soap wives including Becky McDonald, Tracy Barlow and Karen Phillips.
However, he’s also appeared in a number of other programmes – including a rather bizarre Coronation Street crossover with sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf.
His soap mum, Beverley Callard – best known for playing Liz McDonald in Corrie – appeared in the castle last year, so it makes sense for Simon to follow in her footsteps.
Adam, meanwhile, went on an extended hiatus from EastEnders – and it’s been claimed he could quit the show for good after I’m A Celeb.
Speaking to The Sun, a source claimed: “He’s excited by the prospect of showing the nation who the real Adam Woodyatt is.
“He is optimistic it will open the minds of producers who might have previously only thought of him as Ian.
“And there are plenty of stars who’ve gone on to new things as a result of I’m A Celebrity.”
It comes after Danny Miller – who played Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale – also confirmed he would be quitting the soap for good after his castle stint.
He explained that he was “very emotional” about his decision and that it had been a “big part” of his life.
And, speaking of his I’m A Celeb appearance, he said: “It will be nice for people to see me not crying but having a laugh! I am a fun guy at home and I’ve been known as Aaron now for 13 years – it’s good to step outside your comfort zone.”
