Johnny Depp is apparently obsessed with Elon Musk, according to lawyers representing his former wife.
The defamation case against his former wife, Amber Heard, is underway in Virginia, USA, where he is seeking £38.2 million in damages.
Depp, 58, decided to take action against Heard, 35, after she wrote an opinion piece in 2018, detailing her experiences with domestic abuse.
Lawyers for Johnny Depp claimed that the article published by the Washington Post falsely implied that Amber was physically and sexually abused by Johnny during their marriage.
The article in question does not mention Depp but Amber’s lawyers claim it is covered by freedom of speech in the USA.
Now, her lawyer Elaine Bredehoft has made a bold claim against the Pirates of The Caribbean actor.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk was listed as a possible witness in the ongoing case after Johnny Depp’s lawyer claimed Heard had an affair with him.
During the opening of the trial at Fairfax County District Courthouse, Elaine Bredehoft explained that Amber had made charitable donations to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and ACLU, despite Depp’s lawyers saying she hadn’t.
She told jurors: “In addition to that, she was also dating Elon Musk by this time, you will find out that Mr Depp is obsessed with Elon Musk.
“She was dating him, so he gave $500,000 (£384,327.50) to both of those charities in her honour.”
Bredehoft added: “Now she doesn’t claim that is part of the $7m (£5.3m), but what happens is that she makes her payments up through 2018, Mr Depp sues her [on] March 1 2019 and she can’t afford right now to be making those pledges she has to defend herself.
“But she has every intention of continuing to make those payments, she will give it to them once she is able to afford it again.”
During the trial, Amber Heard accused her former husband of sexual assault for the first time, to which he shook his head and said “no” before her lawyer claimed he was “an obsessed ex-husband, hellbent on revenge.”
Elaine Bredehoft who is also representing Amber claimed that several abusive incidents had been triggered by “crushing” drug and alcohol problems.
These are believed to include a “drug binge” with his “good friend” Marilyn Manson and a “blackout” in Australia, which the court was told Heard had previously described as a “three-day hostage situation”.
However, lawyers argued that the allegations by Amber were false and the actress was “preparing to give the performance of a lifetime” during the proceedings.
The trial continues.
