Inside Hollywood home used in blockbuster Heat, which is suspended on 'stilts' above LA

One of Los Angeles’ most iconic homes is balanced on stilts on the side of a hill and some movie buffs may recognise it from iconic Hollywood blockbuster, Heat.

The property was built in 1962 and the stilts make the home appear as though it is floating in mid-air.

It was used as the set for 1995’s Heat, which starred big name A-list royalty such as Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino.

The film is highly regarded in the crime-drama genre and the Los Angeles property served as the base for Danny Trejo’s character Trejo, a role previously dubbed as his favourite from his entire career.

For anyone interested, the huge Hollywood home is currently listed for a whopping $1.6million (£1.3million) and is held by The Sally Forster Jones Group.

The house has stunning views of the LA skyline and is completely surrounded by lush green palm trees and a gorgeous sunset in the evenings.

It also has wooden decking to provide homeowners with a place to enjoy their own piece of the city.

Inhabitants are also treated to a view of the Griffith Observatory and the iconic Hollywood sign.

Seemingly small, the property actually spans 2,000 square feet and boasts a 60 foot deck with sliding doors and huge windows to allow light into the home.

The property also features a low roof, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large kitchen, living room, minibar and a lavish wine fridge.

Inside the property, clean white walls allow the sunlight to bounce and make the space appear larger while the kitchen is fully equipped with appliances.

KitchenAid appliances are also included, along with contrasting orange brick-look tiles above the surfaces.

The house is also big enough for a large ping pong table, perfect for entertaining before enjoying some drinks on the deck outside.

Around 1500 “floating” homes were built in Los Angeles during the 1950s and 1960s to make use of the rocky landscape.

LA’s hilly terrain would make it near impossible to inhabit otherwise, so the ‘stilt’ homes make for an excellent use of space.

After World War II, Los Angeles became an epicentre for innovative architecture and design so the stilt homes provide a clear throwback to that era.

Sadly, very few of these properties still stand but the home used in Heat still remains an iconic piece of American history.

Close to the property there is a golf club, green space and it is a short journey to Downtown Los Angeles.

The listing is held by Sally Forster Jones and Joshua F. Smith of The Sally Forster Jones Group at Compass.
