Coronation Street’s Kate Ford once spoke about about she was told to “ditch her robe’ during an audition.
The actress, 47, took on the role of soap icon Tracy McDonald back in 2002 and has been a firm favourite since. And over the years, it’s fair to say Tracy played a part in several big storylines.
Whether she’s blackmailing family members or committing cold-blooded murder, her time on the cobbles has not been short of drama. And over in Weatherfield recently, things are going to take an intense turn for the character.

As fans will know, Tracy has hired former footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn) to decorate her house. Tracy had gotten fed up with husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) after he failed to do the job.
This week, Tracy and Tommy grow closer after the pair of left alone. In Monday’s episode (January 30) Steve left the cobbles to visit daughter Emma in France and later on in the week, Tracey and Tommy will share a kiss and embark on an affair.
But back in 2021, Kate opened up about her own experience of sexual harassment during her career. She made the comments in the light of several allegations made against actor Noel Clarke – who has always denied the allegations.
Her former co-star Charlie Condou, who played Marcus Dent, tweeted at the time: “I don’t know about naked auditions but I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been told to strip down to my underwear for a commercial casting, whilst in a room full of (dressed) people.”
Retweeting this, Corrie star Kate replied and shared how she had previously endured a similar experience. She said: “Me too ! Someone once told me to ‘ditch the robe.’”
Away from the cobbles, actress Kate’s love life has been less than a success, as she has had a number of famous exes throughout her life. Before Kate joined the ITV soap in 2002, her acting career was just taking off.

She had her first acting appearance back in 1995 when she starred in a music video for The Beatles’ track “Free as a Bird”. But in the run-up to her debut on the soap, Kate was linked with Bart Ruspoli, who has since become a BAFTA-nominated actor. The pair met whilst on the set of EastEnders in 2000, when Kate had a minor role.
Bart, who played Italian hunk Marco for around five episodes during the 2000s, was smitten with Kate and the pair soon began dating. Things, however, would not last long between the pair as they realised how hard it was to date with conflicting schedules.
