Gogglebox icon Linda McGarry has opened up on George Gilbey’s death this year and the heartbreaking thing her granddaughter has asked Father Christmas for
The daughter of Gogglebox star George Gilbey has made a heartwrenching plea to Santa this year – asking him to bring her daddy back for Christmas.
The Celebrity Big Brother star tragically died earlier this year in a horror fall leaving behind his young child. George, a self-employed electrician, fell 80ft through a skylight while working on a roof in what a friend at the time said was “a terrible way to go”.
Aged just 40, he leaves behind daughter Amelie who will spend her first Christmas without the Gogglebox star. He appeared for years on the show alongside mum Linda and her husband Pete.
But this year Amelie Gilbey, eight, has heartbreakingly asked if Santa could “bring my daddy back” as part of her Christmas wishes, saying she would give up all her presents to have him back, reports the Mirror.
Linda revealed: “She’s done her Christmas list and it will break your heart. It says, ‘You can forget all of that if you bring my daddy back’.
“They had a Daddies Day [at school] and a girl was crying because her parents had broken up and Amelie said, ‘My daddy’s always with me everywhere I go. He’s in my heart.’”
The sweet words came nine months after George’s death while working on a warehouse in Shoeburyness, Essex. Despite an air ambulance being called, he died at the scene.
At the opening of an inquest into his death in April, Essex coroner’s court heard he had fallen through a plastic skylight and that his injuries were “consistent with a fall from height”.
Police and the Health and Safety Executive launched a joint investigation following his death and two men were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
One was released under investigation and the other was released on bail.
Lina, now 74, also suffered a stroke six months after his death which she feels was caused by the stress of losing her child.
“On the tests, they couldn’t find where it had come from, but I think it’s the shock of George,” she said. “There’s no bigger stress than what I went through.”
