Report: Rege-Jean Page Exits 'Bridgerton' Due to 'Creative Differences' With Shonda Rhimes

    Instagram

Despite leaving the hit Netflix series, the British-Zimbabwean actor previously noted in an interview that he hoped nothing but further success for ‘Bridgerton’.

    Apr 13, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
It seems like Rege-Jean Page’s exit from Netflix’s hit drama “Bridgerton” can be avoided. If a new report is to be believed, the reason why the Simon Basset depicter departed from the show was because he and the producers had different views on the future of his character.

“Rege is not coming back to ‘Bridgerton’ because of creative differences with [executive producer] Shonda Rhimes and her team,” a source told Page Six. “He wasn’t happy with what was planned for his character for season 2, which would have kept him a player but not the focal point of the show.”

Additionally, the Hollywood insider claimed that the actor “has been inundated with offers for other interesting and challenging leading roles.”

The source later noted that it wasn’t a good move for Rege to have a disagreement with Shonda. “If you look at all the big names who have left [Rhimes’ hit show] ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in the past, you see you don’t disagree with Shonda, nobody is bigger than the show,” the source added. Despite the “creative differences,” Rege allegedly left on good terms.

Of his exit, the 31-year-old hunk told Variety earlier this month, “It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end – give us a year. [I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

While acknowledging that fans might be saddened by his exit, he was convinced that “the audience knows the arc completes.” The actor continued, “They come in knowing that, so you can tie people in emotional knots because they have that reassurance that we’re going to come out and we’re going to have the marriage and the baby.”

The British-Zimbabwean actor also noted that he hoped nothing but further success for “Bridgerton”. “I have nothing but excitement for ‘Bridgerton’ continuing to steam train off and conquer the globe,” he claimed. “But there is also value in completing these arcs and sticking the landing.”

Late Night Gets Serious About Police Brutality

Trevor Noah and Stephen Colbert criticized officers’ use of force against Black men, citing two cases in which traffic stops turned violent.Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. We’re all stuck at home at the moment, so here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.A Lethal ErrorTrevor Noah and Stephen Colbert addressed police brutality against Black men on Monday night, with a focus on two recent high-profile cases. The first was the death of Daunte Wright, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop near Minneapolis on Sunday. The second was that of Caron Nazario, an Army lieutenant who was in uniform in December when two Virginia police officers ordered him to stop his car, pointed their weapons at him and doused him with pepper spray.“But if you’re surprised that a member of the military is having his rights abused, then you need to understand the police don’t give a [expletive],” Noah said. “They don’t care if you’re a member of the military; they don’t care if you’re a beloved member of the community; they don’t care if you’re recording them; [expletive], they don’t even care if they’re recording themselves. And the reason they don’t care is because they know they’re going to get away with it. And until that changes, they’re just going to keep not caring.”“What a strange way to say ‘Thank you for your service.’” — STEPHEN COLBERT“And how crazy is it that this driver — think about it — he knew to get to a gas station so that he would have decent lighting for the encounter. Imagine. Just think about that for a moment: Police brutality has forced everyday Black Americans to become lighting experts.” — TREVOR NOAH“I mean, at this point Black people should just start singing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ when they get pulled over. Then maybe, just maybe, the cops will be like, ‘Well, I don’t want to pepper spray the anthem — what do I do?’” — TREVOR NOAHColbert and Noah expressed frustration with a police statement saying that the officer who shot and killed Wright had mistakenly confused her gun for her Taser.“It’s dangerous when a policeman can’t tell if you’re holding a gun. It’s insane when they can’t tell if they’re holding a gun.” — STEPHEN COLBERT“A man was killed at a traffic stop because the police officer mixed up their gun and their Taser? Is that even supposed to be a legitimate excuse? Like, we’re supposed to watch that and go, ‘Ah, OK. One time I used sugar instead of salt, so I can relate.’” — TREVOR NOAH“And by the way, don’t you find it amazing cops think everything is a gun except their own gun?” — TREVOR NOAH“And even if it was just a mistake, that’s not a mistake that you just forgive and walk away, especially since you know the people jumping to her defense for using a gun instead of a Taser — those are the same people they want their waiter fired for bringing them a regular Coke instead of Diet.” — TREVOR NOAHThe Punchiest Punchlines (Venmo Tuition Edition)“Congress returned after a two-week recess. ‘Not much, just hung out,’ said Matt Gaetz before anyone could talk.” — SETH MEYERS“Matt Gaetz, Florida congressman and fraternity brother who wants to show you something in his room, has been under fire since news broke of him being under investigation over possible sex trafficking. But like a Karen in a Bath & Body Works, he refuses to back down.” — TREVOR NOAH“According to a new report, Florida congressman Matt Gaetz used the cash transfer app Venmo to send an accused sex trafficker $900, who then paid three young women for, quote, ‘tuition and school,’ which is a pretty weak attempt to cover your tracks. Piers Morgan Dubs Sheryl Underwood's 'PTSD' Claim Post-'The Talk' Fight 'Crock of S**t'

In the show’s first episode of ‘The Talk’ since its nearly month-long hiatus, Sheryl claims she has ‘trauma’ following her on-air debate with former co-host Sharon Osbourne.

    Apr 13, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Piers Morgan has reacted to Sheryl Underwood’s recent claim. Upon learning “The Talk” co-host declared that she experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following her on-air clash with Sharon Osbourne, the former host of “Good Morning Britain” dubbed her statement “crock of s**t.”

On Monday, April 12, the 56-year-old English broadcaster made use of Twitter to repost an article about the comedienne’s claims. Along with it, he simply argued, “Oh what a crock of sh*t.” Prior to that, he retweeted a video from “The Talk” Twitter account in which she shared a message ahead of the show’s return. He raged, “What a shameless fraud.”

Piers Morgan dubs Sheryl Underwood’s ‘PTSD’ claim ‘crock of ‘shit.’

“The Talk” made its return on Monday since its nearly month-long hiatus. In the episode, Sheryl addressed her past argument with Sharon and spilled, “I feel like I’ve been in, like, PTSD because it was a trauma, and I feel like I want to get past this because I really wanted to get back to work with my friends and my colleagues and the crew… But I also wanted to get back to the audience.”

      See also…

Sheryl also divulged the reason why she remained calm during the awkward debate. “I didn’t want to escalate things with Sharon because I thought I was having a conversation with a friend, but also I knew I had to be an example for others to follow because I didn’t want to perceived as the angry black woman,” she said. “And that really scared me.”

“I didn’t want to be that and I wanted to remain calm and remain focused, and it’s difficult to go back to that day because I just feel the trauma,” the 57-year-old went on. “I feel fearful, apprehensive.”

Sheryl and Sharon’s heated debate occurred in the March 10 episode of “The Talk”. At that time, the wife of Ozzy Osbourne defended Piers in the wake of his controversial comments about Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Sharon, who has since left the CBS talk show, claimed that she has personally apologized to Sheryl. The latter also confirmed that her former co-host texted her but she did not reply because their on-air stand-off was under an internal investigation.

'The Voice' Recap: Find Out Who Makes It to the Knockout Rounds

    NBC/Trae Patton

The new episode of the NBC long-running singing competition show features the final night of the Battle Rounds as remaining contestants perform in front of coaches.

    Apr 13, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Season 20 of “The Voice” is soon going to enter the Knockout Rounds. The Monday, April 12 episode of the NBC long-running singing competition show featured the final night of the Battle Rounds as remaining contestants performed in front of coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend, Nick Jonas and Kelsea Ballerini, the latter of whom was there on behalf of Kelly Clarkson.

The first battle that night was between Team John’s Victor Solomon and Deion Warren who belted out Usher’s “U Got It Bad”. Following the performance, Blake commented, “Deion as much as I enjoyed watching your performance, I heard pitch things that I didn’t hear with Victor. I think if you could take a note, Victor from Deion’s book though is that he does have a lot of personalities when he performs. From what I heard vocally, I would be going with Victor.” John apparently agreed with Blake as he announced Victor as the winner of the battle.

Next up were Ainee and Anna Grace from Team Kelly. For the night, they opted to sing “You Know I’m No Good” by Amy Winehouse. Blake noted that Ainee seemed to be “restricting” herself for a little bit when she was singing and that made him pick Anna. John, however, chose Ainee because she’s “more my style with your flow.” Eventually, Kelsea, on behalf of Kelly, announced Anna as the winner of the battle.

Team Nick’s Raine Stern and Andrew Marshall then took the stage to sing “Adore You” by Harry Styles. “I love this song and Andrew this song is better suited to you. Vocally I was more drawn to Andrew, performance-wise I was more drawn to Raine, you are so fun to watch and you can see that you love it which is truly an artist,” Kelsea commented. Nick named Raine as the winner of the battle. However, it wasn’t the end for Andrew because Blake used his one and only steal to get Andrew on his team.

Savanna Chesnut and Pete Mroz from Team Blake then went against each other while singing “Have a Little Faith in Me” by John Hiatt. Nick loved both as he said that Savanna executed each note very well while praising Pete for his “soothing” voice that reminded him of Steven Chapman. John, on the other hand, thought that Savanna was a “wonderful singer,” but she was missing “a sense of urgency.” Pete was picked as the winner of the battle.

Following it up were JD Casper and Kenzie Wheeler from Team Kelly. Singing “Fishing in the Dark” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, they hoped to impress the coaches and be sent to the Knockout Rounds. “I think both of them were really well-executed performances, you both know who you are as vocalists,” John noted. Kenzie won over JD in the battle.

Another Team Nick pair took the stage. This time, it was Rachel Mac and Bradley Sinclair who performed “Your Song” by Elton John. “You both just gave the best performance that we have had in the battle rounds,” Nick said after the performance. After a long deliberation, he picked Rachel as the winner of the battle.

Concluding the night were Rio Doyle and Carolina Rial from Team John as they belted out “Somebody I Used to Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra. “Wow, I loved that so much. You guys are both incredible, your stage presence and you both didn’t lose your breath. I feel like there is more experience with Carolina, but you are both magnificent, and congratulations on making it this far,” raved Kelsea. John announced Rio as the winner. However, he wasn’t ready to let Carolina go so he decided to save her.

Sheryl Underwood Clarifies on Her Unanswering Sharon Osbourne Text During 'The Talk' Return

    CBS/Tiffany Watson

In the April 12 episode of the talk show, Sheryl finds a defender in co-host Elaine Welteroth who claims that Sharon ‘was not listening and went off the rails into disrespect.’

    Apr 13, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“The Talk” co-host Sheryl Underwood has broken her silence about her TV stand-off with Sharon Osbourne as the U.S. show returned on Monday, April 12 without the outspoken Brit.

Underwood and Osbourne fell out during an episode on March 10, during a tense on-air discussion about racism that led to Sharon’s departure from the show.

Sheryl addressed viewers at the top of Monday’s episode and revealed she feared being perceived as “the angry black woman”.

She also addressed Osbourne’s demand that she should not “dare cry” to win sympathy during their awkward clash.

“I’m not tearing up because I hurt your feelings or want some sympathy,” she said. “I’m crying because I have to restrain myself… To be told you can’t do something… I’m a grown-a** woman, but you have to suppress that.”

      See also…

The entire episode of “The Talk” was devoted to racism and the March 10 showdown, which was sparked by Osbourne’s defence of her friend Piers Morgan following his outburst about Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex on a British breakfast show. Morgan had been accused of racism for comments he made about the royal and Sharon stated, “I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist.”

The tense encounter came to a head when Osbourne turned to her co-host and asked her to be precise about how Morgan had been racist and as Sheryl started to respond, Sharon raged, “Don’t you dare cry.”

On Monday’s show, Sheryl also confirmed she had not been in contact with Osbourne since the episode, although Sharon had texted her. Underwood said she did not respond because their on-air stand-off was under an internal investigation.

Underwood was defended by another co-host, Elaine Welteroth, who said she believed Osbourne “was not listening and went off the rails into disrespect”, while shooting down reports that she and Sheryl had conspired to “attack” Osbourne, adding, “That is absolutely, categorically false.”

“What you saw were two women who were maintaining their composure, their dignity and their respect every step of the way and were not being heard,” Welteroth added.

'Shameless' Series Finale Forced by COVID-19 to Put Emmy Rossum's Return on Back Burner

    Showtime

Showrunner John Wells confirms there was a storyline that included Fiona Gallagher, but the actress portraying the character was not able to get to Los Angeles because of lockdown.

    Apr 13, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
The COVID lockdown scuppered Emmy Rossum’s return to “Shameless” for the series finale. Showrunner John Wells has confirmed there was a storyline that included the actress’ character, but Emmy couldn’t get to Los Angeles from her home in New York to shoot anything, so the writers had to abandon the idea.

“We were trying to get Emmy and Emmy wanted to come back…,” Wells tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Based on what was going on with the pandemic, when we were planning it… the quarantines went back into effect between New York and Los Angeles and it was impossible to figure out how to get her back. It was a very minor but sad result of everything that’s happened in the pandemic.”

Opening up about an imagined plot including Emmy’s Fiona Gallagher, Wells reveals it revolved around her character’s father, Frank Gallagher, battling dementia and the family gathering together to sort out his estate.

      See also…

“The idea was with Frank’s dementia being discovered, there’s a call and she comes back to help everyone figure it out and that she would come back and be involved at the end with what to do with the house and all that,” John shared. “The travel was such a mess that we never got to the point of my actual writing it.”

“We put it up on the writers’ room board and then took it down a few times… We had a lot of jokes for her but we never actually nailed it down.”

Emmy left “Shameless” in 2018, at the end of the ninth season. The series finale, titled “Father Frank, Full of Grace”, aired in America on Sunday, April 11.

Zac Efron Accused of Stealing Concept for His New Show 'Down to Earth'

    Instagram/Dylan Efron

The ‘High School Musical’ alum is given seven days to give explanation after an Australian presenter accused him of ripping off concept for new Netflix show ‘Down to Earth’.

    Apr 13, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Zac Efron and Netflix have been given seven days to respond to Australian presenter Ben Waddell’s claim that they “stole” the concept for show “Down to Earth” from him.

Waddell told the Daily Mail Australia that the documentary series, which sees Efron travel around the world with wellness expert Darin Olien to find healthy and sustainable ways to live, is an almost exact replica of the programme he shopped around the U.S. back in 2018.

He failed to get the concept off the ground in America, so decided to return to his homeland to shoot a local version of the programme – the pilot of which he claims Efron and Netflix copied.

After struggling to get hold of Efron, Waddell enlisted the help of local media to “track him down” and issued a legal notice demanding a response to his allegations within the next week.

If the former “High School Musical” star doesn’t respond, Waddell is currently in the process of raising funds to be able to take the case to court.

      See also…

He previously enlisted lawyers to write a letter on behalf of himself and his Ghost Donkey Media production company to Netflix and The Nacelle Company, which detailed eight scenes in Efron’s programme that he claims “appear to be directly copied” from his own show – adding that the similarities are “too extensive and specific to be a coincidence.”

“The concepts are substantially identical as well: Both feature a young, charismatic host travelling around the world and immersing himself in the cultures he visits, in particular exploring how… (they) approach sustainability,” the letter read. “Even some of the individual shots that make up the trailer are the same.”

Waddell’s lawyers sent the letter in September (20) but had no response, prompting the Australian star to take further action.

Efron is currently filming the second season of Down to Earth in Australia – which Waddell noted was “brutal and gut-wrenching.”

Netflix and Efron have yet to publicly respond to Waddell’s claims.
