    Instagram

The ‘Hotline Bling’ hitmaker links up with Bow Wow and throws a small party after his song ‘What’s Next’, ‘Wants and Needs’ and ‘Lemon Pepper Freestyle’ start at No. 1, 2 and 3 respectively on the chart.

    Mar 16, 2021
AceShowbiz – Drake has set a new Billboard record. The Canadian star made history as the first artist to have three songs debuted in the top three spots of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time.
Drizzy’s “What’s Next”, “Wants and Needs” with Lil Baby and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” featuring Rick Ross entered the chart at No. 1, 2 and 3 respectively. All three songs are lifted off his fourth and latest “EP Scary Hours 2”, which was released on March 9.
With this feat, Drake also matches The Beatles and Ariana Grande’s achievements as the only acts ever to rank at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Hot 100 simultaneously. The 34-year-old singer/rapper has eight Hot 100 No. 1 and 45 top 10s so far.
Drake has taken to Instagram to mark his new record-breaking achievement. He posted an image of this week’s rank that has his songs on the top three and simply wrote in the caption, “SPLASHY.” He further expressed his feelings with a photo of Stephen Curry shouting in joy while sitting on the basketball field.

Drake teased Bow with lyrics from his 2001 track “Thank You”. Bow said, “That’s what you wanna do?” as he and Drizzy laughed. Bow then congratulated his pal as the camera recorded their friendly exchange.

Drake threw a party to celebrate making Billboard Hot 100 history.

The Canadian star received congratulatory messages from his celeb pals.
In another clip, Drake appeared to throw a small celebration with his pals as he showed his dining room decorated with “123” balloons to represent his three top 10 debuts. He also re-posted shout-outs from his celebrity pals and fellow hip-hop stars, including Quavo, DJ Khaled and London on da Track, congratulating him on his record-breaking feat.

Drake Pushes for Verzuz Battle Between Usher and Justin Timberlake

    WENN/FayesVision/Instar

Timbaland makes the revelation when talking about efforts to make rap match between late rap rivals Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. as well as Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott happening.

    Jan 28, 2021
AceShowbiz – Drake is pushing for an Usher/Justin Timberlake face off on Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Verzuz battle initiative.
The brains behind the idea have revealed the Canadian star has been in touch, urging Timbaland and Swizz Beatz to recruit the two superstars for an upcoming back catalogue battle.
“Drake hit me up too about it,” Timbaland tells ESPN. “He said, ‘We gotta make that happen’. I said, ‘Soon to come. Soon to come’.”
The pair is also working on battles royale between late rap rivals Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., and Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott.

“It is, to me, the best party that could ever happen on Verzuz,” Timbaland said of a Rhymes/Elliott match-up. “It’s just a matter of comfort zone of my sister wanting to celebrate with her brother. Understanding that it’s not a competition, it’s a party. I have been talking to her about that but I think that’s an amazing Verzuz.”

The producers launched the popular entertainment series that pits producers, songwriters and artists against each other in a rap battle style format on Instagram Live and Apple Music at the beginning of the COVID lockdown last year (20). Competitors take it in turns to play a song from a list of 20 from their discography, as fans, friends and fellow artists watch on. A winner is decided by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.
So far, highlight face-offs have included Snoop Dogg and DMX, Alicia Keys and John Legend, Brandy and Monica, and Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle, while Ashanti took on Keyshia Cole in a Verzuz battle on Friday, January 22.

Drake Postpones New Album as He's Drained by Recovery From Surgery

    Instagram

The ‘In My Feelings’ rapper announces on Instagram Story that his highly-anticipated set ‘Certified Lover Boy’ isn’t coming in January as planned, but assures that it will arrive within this year.

    Jan 21, 2021
AceShowbiz – Drake’s fans looking forward to his new album may be disappointed to hear new update from the star. On Wednesday, January 20, the rapper announced on Instagram that his upcoming album “Certified Lover Boy” won’t be arriving this month as planned before.
The “Hotline Bling” hitmaker brought the news of the album release delay on his Instagram Story, explaining that the plan was derailed due to his recent surgery. “I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery,” so the 34-year-old wrote.
Hinting that his recovery process is going well so far, he added, “I’m blessed to be back on my feet feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t be dropping in January.” The OVO Sound co-founder, however, assured fans that he’s working on completing the album within this year. “I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all in 2021,” he shared.

Not much is known about Drake’s condition, but the Canadian star posted in October 2020 a picture of his bandaged knee while he’s resting in bed. “I actually want to use this post to send love and motivation to anybody else that 2020 let loose on,” so he told his online devotees. “Start writing the best bounce back story now.”
His rep later confirmed that Drizzy did undergo a knee surgery, though failed to offer up any other information as to how he got injured. Just days prior, he was still able to celebrate his 34th birthday on October 24 with a big party.
Prior to the album release delay, Drake had teased “Certified Lover Boy” with a promo video showing a young boy looking up into a spotlight shining down on him as a hazy instrumental plays. The promo spot also referred to his previous albums and mixtapes like “So Far Gone” (2009), “Take Care” (2011), “Nothing Was the Same” (2013) and “Dark Lane Demo Tapes” (2020).
To serve as the sixth studio album of Drake, the album has boasted a single titled “Laugh Now Cry Later” featuring Lil Durk, which was released in August.

Drake Makes History by Breaking Spotify's 50 Billion Streams Record

    Instagram

The audio streaming service confirms the ‘God’s Plan’ hitmaker’s feat days after he celebrated the achievement with a post on his Instagram Story timeline.

    Jan 20, 2021
AceShowbiz – Hip-hop superstar Drake has made music history by becoming the first artist to break the 50 billion streams barrier on Spotify.
Unconfirmed reports about the rapper’s latest career milestone emerged over the weekend (January 16-17), when Drake himself shared a social media post about the achievement on his Instagram Story timeline and simply added an upside down smiley face, but now Spotify bosses have made the news official, confirming the feat to Variety.
The new honour shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to fans – Drake has repeatedly dominated end-of-year streaming lists with the popularity of chart smashes like “One Dance”, “Hotline Bling”, and “In My Feelings”, while 2018 single “God’s Plan” boasts more than 1.67 billion hits alone on Spotify.

      See also…

He also ended the 2010s as the most-streamed artist with 28 billion streams, beating Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, and Eminem to the title.
And Drake is only going to improve on his impressive track record when he releases his new album, “Certified Lover Boy”, later this month.
The Canadian star first hinted that a new album was in the works back in April 2020 as the album was originally set for a release this summer. Drake later announced the album’s title on August 14 of the same year.
He treated fans to a short teaser last October, which also happened to be his 34th birthday. Additionally, he released “Laugh Now Cry Later” featuring Lil Durk. It marks the first single to be released from this new project.

Drake Suggests It's Time to Start Something New in the Wake of The Weeknd's 2021 Grammys Snub

    Instagram

The ‘Toosie Slide’ rapper publicly voices his support to the ‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker shortly after the latter branded the prestigious music awards ‘corrupt’ for failing to give him a single nomination.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake has voiced his support for The Weeknd after the latter got snubbed at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Upon learning that the “Blinding Lights” hitmaker did not receive any nominations for the 63rd annual music awards, the “Toosie Slide” rapper suggested it is a “great time for somebody to start something new.”
The 34-year-old offered his two cents on the drama via Instagram Story on Wednesday, November 25. “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” he began.
“It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways. The other day I said @TheWeeknd was a lock for either Album or Song of the Year along with reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way,” the MC continued. “This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”

Drake supported The Weeknd after the latter got snubbed at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Drake’s support came after The Weeknd and his latest album “After Hours” failed to land nods at the upcoming Grammys despite it being commercially successful. The Canadian star himself has called out the Recording Academy on Instagram and Twitter for the snub. “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency,” he declared in the Tuesday, November 24 posts.
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen, additionally revealed that he was preparing a performance for the awards show, which had been scheduled a week before his half-time show at the 2021 Super Bowl. He tweeted, “Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited!”
Reacting to The Weeknd’s jab, Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason Jr. insisted that his lack of nominations had nothing to do with his upcoming Super Bowl gig. “We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated,” he said in a statement. “I was surprised and can empathize with what he’s feeling. His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration.”
“We were thrilled when we found out he would be performing at the upcoming Super Bowl and we would have loved to have him also perform on the Grammy stage the weekend before…unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists,” he continued. “But as the only peer-voted music award, we will continue to recognize and celebrate excellence in music while shining a light on the many amazing artists that make up our global community.”
Harvey concluded by stating, “To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process.”
