Holly Willoughby was reminded of one of the most iconic moments in recent This Morning history on Tuesday’s show, looking back to last year’s April Fool’s Day.
Phillip Schofield had enlisted the help of the This Morning team in pranking Holly, staging an elaborate “fake makeover” hoax to swindle her on the show.
After Lisa Snowdon promised a glamorous transformation, an actress pretended to be devastated by her makeover, only for her car to burst into flames on her way out of the studio.
At the time, when Holly discovered it was all a big joke, she burst into tears, her mascara running as she sobbed in relief.
Pouting on this week’s show, Holly branded the prank as “awful,” saying: “It was so awful, the tears were tears of absolute relief that it wasn’t real.”

Recalling the message that had popped up on the autocue at the time, Holly revealed she had been instructed to invite viewers to get a makeover on the show.
She said: “I was thinking ‘I am not reading that’ – who would want to read a makeover from us.”
During the prank, Holly was stricken when she learned the actress, who was pretending to be a viewer named Carol, was disappointed by her makeover.
Trying her best to cheer her up, Holly said: “You have a whole wardrobe and people push you out of your comfort zone, it all happens a bit quickly…

“Please don’t worry. What we’ll do is, we’ll take you downstairs and you can be in charge and you can go through the rails and you can have a look and find something that you like, and if it’s the make-up, the hair, or anything, we can change it.”
Holly tried to encourage Carol to find a new outfit with the stylist’s help, but Phillip insisted it was time for her to head to her swish lunch in central London.
The camera then showed Carol’s car driving out of the studio, before suddenly going ablaze – leading Holly to start panicking.

Her hands shaking, Holly informed viewers they would be going to a commercial break, saying: “Oh my God, what is happening.”
However, Phil quickly confessed it had been a long-winded prank, as she burst into tears before the cameras.
She replied: “I hate you all! I can’t tell you, that was so awful. It’s too easy. Well done though! It’s a lovely car that you’ve just trashed. I’m so relieved that wasn’t real.”
This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
