Joe Biden shares emotional Coldplay tribute to late son after victory

US President-elect Joe Biden held a fireworks display, complete with a tribute to his late son, in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, after it was confirmed he will become the 46th President of the United States.

Celebrations began in Wilmington after Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris both gave their victory speeches at Biden HQ.

Biden clinched the victory over Donald Trump on Saturday with a win in swing state Pennsylvania, after days of votes being counted.

Feeling triumphant, Biden and Harris then enjoyed a fireworks display to mark their win, which was soundtracked by Coldplay’s A Sky Full Of Stars.

The euphoric anthem by the Brit band was played at President-elect Biden’s son Beau’s funeral in 2015, so it holds a special place in the heart of the new President of the United States.

Biden’s touching tributes comes after he and one of his granddaughters were pictured in the early hours of Election Day visiting his son Beau’s grave.

Like his dad, Beau looked like he had a bright future in politics ahead of him and was widely regarded as a future Delaware Governor.

But he was never able to fulfil that aspiration, as he tragically passed away in May 2015 following a brain cancer diagnosis.

Beau, who was 46 when he died, was an Iraq War veteran and had served as the Attorney General of Delaware.

In a statement shared shortly after his death, Joe Biden, who was the Vice President at the time, said: “Beau Biden was, quite simply, the finest man any of us have ever known.”

The President-elect has said previously that Beau was the reason he decided to run for President again after Hilary Clinton cliched the Democratic nomination during the previous presidential race in 2016.

Speaking to CNN about his late son’s wish previously, Biden said: “He wanted to make sure I stayed in the public arena. That’s all I’ve done my whole life.”
