Phillip Schofield read a book about how to overcome the pain of growing up gay in a straight world before his decision to come out live on This Morning.
The brave star gave the honest interview of his life when he sat down with best friend and This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby to admit he is gay.
Phillip, 57, emotionally told Holly how he sat down with daughters Molly and Ruby and his wife Stephanie Lowe to tell them about his true feelings before they showered him with love.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday morning, Phillip replied to a newspaper editorial which encouraged him to read a book called The Velvet Rage: Overcoming the Pain of Growing Up Gay in a Straight Man’s World.
Written by American clinical psychologist Alan Downs, the book says it “will help gay men profoundly understand their dichotomous extremes”.

“I couldn’t have hoped for a better, calming and loving set of hugs and support, I adore them both.”
Referencing the backlash Eamonn got for joking about Phil and Holly in a hot tub, Phillip added: “And for the record, Eamonn Holmes made me laugh, he lightened a very emotional moment and I’m very happy that he did.”
In another post, Phil encouraged others to be honest about their sexuality.

Phil signed off the post: “#BeKind.”
