An Antiques Roadshow guest jokingly fired back at an expert who asked to pocket her clock after he revealed just how much it was worth.
Antiques expert Richard Price was tasked with providing the analysis and valuation for a woman’s stunning Cartier clock during the BBC show – which has been airing repeats during the coronavirus pandemic.
The episode from Crathes Castle saw Richard begin by saying: “Well I have to tell you, this is an exceptional clock, isn’t it.”
In response, the guest admitted it is “very pretty” before the expert revealed the stunning item dated back to the 1920s and 1930s.

The lucky owner of the clock gave a brief backstory to how she required it, saying: “My grandmother was left it by an actress called Lily Elsie.
“(She) was the original merry widow in the 1920s I think.
“So that’s how it came into my family, it was my grandmother’s my mother’s and now it belongs to me.”
Despite the clock not actually working and the guest never remembering a time when it had, Richard was optimistic about its value.

“Well what a lovely ornament,” he said. “Now, the enamel, this lovely dark purple, is absolutely superb.
“A very commercial colour and it’s over this really lovely machine churning.
“Beautiful at the front, lovely on the side but at the top you can actually see those sun’s rays going from front to back and the typical Cartier hands with tiny diamonds there.”
Richard urged the woman to get the item restored, before revealing his all-important valuation.
“So I’m going to say, in the current market because Cartier has zoomed, these sort of things are immensely popular. In my opinion, that’s going to be retailing for in excess of £30,000,” he said.
Everyone gasped in shock, with the guest letting out a “gosh”, but things were about to get even better.
He continued: “And in a top retail outlet, they could well be asking for towards £50,000.”
Deciding to try his luck, Richard added: “So the thing to do is to leave it on this table and let me put it in my pocket.”
But the guest immediately shut him down, saying: “Certainly not.”
It comes after another Antiques Roadshow was left less than impressed after discovering the real value of a painting that could have been worth £1million.
