Coronation Street fans in tears as Ken Barlow bids farewell to the cobbles and his dog

Coronation Street fans were in floods of tears after Ken Barlow bid farewell to Weatherfield and moved into a retirement home in tonight’s emotional episode.

The much-loved character, played by actor William Roache, left fans devastated in the heartbreaking scenes which saw him bid farewell to the cobbles and his dog, Eccles.

Ken became teary as he spoke to his beloved pup, with classical music playing as he made his farewell speech.

He said: “I had to prove to you that you could trust me.

“That I wouldn’t judge you if you ran away from a squirrel, or snored at the foot of my bed.

“Maybe I could smuggle you in in a suitcase. What do you think about that?

“All you ever wanted was my companionship. This is au revoir, until we meet again.”

Fans couldn’t cope with the moving scene, and flooded Twitter with comments.

One said: “Omg Eccles face is so sad. She knows her dad is leaving her.”

While another wrote: “I feel like my heart is breaking knowing that Ken is actually leaving.”

A third typed: “Think Eccles could break his heart when Ken leaves.”

“Listen to Audrey Ken don’t go” said a fourth.

Later in the episode, heartbreaking scenes saw Ken say a final goodbye to his lovely home on Coronation Street.

The actor sat on his chair thoughtfully, before standing up and slowly walking while gazing around the room.

He said in a moving speech: “Goodbye, number one Coronation Street.”

Viewers couldn’t handle the moving scenes, with many flooding Twitter with comments saying they didn’t want the legendary character to leave after being on the soap since it began in 1960.

Another wrote: “Don’t want Ken to leave no 1. Too many memories.”

While another typed: “You know you’re feeling emotional when you cry at Ken Barlow saying goodbye to his house on Corrie. I am actually sobbing at him leaving Number 1.”

“I’m gonna miss Ken . End of an era. Poor Eccles.” added another emotional Twitter user.
