Corrie Catherine Tyldesley confirms husband had Covid-19 after hospital dash

Former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has revealed her husband and five-year old have both tested positive for coronavirus antibodies.

The actress’ hubby Tom Pitfied and their son Alfie both fell ill during a family holiday to Dubai last year.

Photographer Tom ended up in hospital with breathing difficulties during the trip following a mystery illness.

Neither Tom or Alfie have been poorly since and now Cath, 36, is convinced her husband and son contracted Covid-19 on the flight in November last year, months before experts believe the disease arrived in the UK.

Earlier this week, the TV personality took to Instagram to tell her 626,000 followers: “We have just got our test results back.

“I thought Tom and Alfie had it in November and nobody quite believed it. It turns out I was right.

“This ugly little b*****d of a disease has been flying around longer than we have been told.”

Cath and her family’s flight was delayed 27 hours before a passenger fell ill and collapsed on it.

After arriving at their hotel, Tom became ill in the night and Cath has to call an ambulance.

The Corrie star stayed in the hotel room with a distraught Alfie while Tom went to hospital alone.

He was later discharged with antibiotics and Cath sent the rest of their luxury trip nursing both of them as Alfie fell ill a few days later.

A source told Daily Star: “Cath just thought it was bad luck when Tom and Alfie fell ill.

“But when the symptoms of Covid became more widely known this year.

She suspected they had had it as Tom also had no sense of taste or smell.

“After her Instagram post she has been contacted by the families of other passengers on the same flight as they also fell ill.

“She knows they could have had it at a later date without symptoms but it seems like a huge coincidence.”

Catherine said earlier this year Tom had to be hospitalised after complaining “I can’t breathe”, while paramedics were later called out to look at Alfie after his temperature went up to 40 during the family holiday.

She said on Good Morning Britain: ‘We travelled to Dubai in November, and when were on the flight there was a young chap who collapsed several times.

“He was receiving oxygen from the amazing staff on board. We made it to Dubai and he got whisked away.

“The following morning Tom was in the spare room and he said, “I can’t breathe”.

“He was wheezing, and he’s never poorly. So I knew something was really wrong.

“He got taken to hospital. They thought initially it was some kind of pneumonia. By day four Alfie’s temperature went up to 40 so we had the paramedics out once again.

“So, for me, I think this has been knocking around probably since September or October, and it’s gradually been building.

“I’ve never seen Tom that poorly and he had every symptom of the coronavirus.

“Alfie wasn’t as bad, but as we now know it doesn’t tend to affect children as badly, in most cases.”

Earlier this month, Catherine revealed her grandfather tragically passed away after contracting coronavirus.

The small screen star revealed the sad news on the ITV breakfast show just weeks after her mum also spent six days in intensive care after contracting Covid-19.
