Friends star Maggie Wheeler wows with age-defying looks 16 years after show

Friends star Maggie Wheeler left fans of the show completely shell shocked as she wowed with her ageless looks after appearing on NBC on Thursday.

Maggie, 59, looked better than ever as she chatted about the iconic show, and her equally iconic character Janice, who was Chandler Bing’s ex-girlfriend.

The actress looked exactly the same as she did on the tenth series of the show, which concluded back in 2004.

Meanwhile, Maggie also opened up about Janice’s iconic voice and laugh, which actually took her from a brief guest part to a regular guest star throughout the seasons.

Explaining why Janice spoke completely different to her real life self, she lifted the lid on how her iconic character came about.

Taking the role of Chandler’s one time only girlfriend, she decided to switch things up a bit as she auditioned for the role of Janice Litman-Goralnik.

Maggie was only supposed to be in the role short-term but ended up with vast appearances on the sitcom until 2004, due to her popularity.

Elaborating on her character, the actress told Channel Seven’s The Morning Show Australia how she created the nasally voice and laugh.

She said: “I made the decision about the voice in advance. I created the laugh because Matthew is so funny and I knew he would make me laugh on set.”

“I thought Janice better have a laugh because he will crack me up every time we work together and so, that is how that happened.”

It seems she managed to conjure up the idea to transform her speech after she had been fired from her previous role on the Ellen DeGeneres programme, These Friends Of Mine after just one season.

Speaking to News.au, she explained: “I had been on the first season of the Ellen DeGeneres show and had a great time but when I was fired from that show, I was devastated.”

“I was so shaken by it, it was an unthinkable thing as an actor, but I felt in a way liberated to do the work I wanted to do without fear or favour.

“On any other day I might have done the Friends audition differently, but it came hot on the heels off that and I felt free and decided to do what I wanted to do on that day and it worked in my favour.”

Despite Maggie’s role originally expected to be brief, she went on to have numerous appearances right up until the show concluded in its tenth season.
